goodymatt Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I’d be happy with any of the following: Rodgers Rose Corberan Vieira Sadly feel we appoint one of the following: Eckhert O’Neil Carrick (I’m more on the fence about him) 3

Can't see it being O'Neil now after the reaction online and at the game today. 1
goodymatt Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Alfie House has given his current feelings on the new manager situation today:
Tommy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Surely after today there’s no chance they would appoint O’Neil. Matches Fanbase would be toxic before the ink on the contract dries.
stfrancisofbenali Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Can’t be O’Neil after today. Carrick far too nice and mild-mannered. No one perfect but Corberan best ‘available’.
tdmickey3 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago New manager should be in place by Monday so he has the two weeks to sort everything out but knowing these Ankerson led clowns we will let it drag on and on 4

Carrick would be a bit 'meh' but he wouldn't have the antagony (is that a word? I feel like it should be) with the fans that Martin, Tonda or O'Neill would have. Heck I'd take Mowbray over having Martin back (Tony, not his brother!) 1
LGTL Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It’s a pretty open secret that Eckert was appointed by Spors in the summer with one eye on the first team job. He was always being groomed to be Still’s replacement, it just came about 2/3 years earlier than expected.
skintsaint Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago If it is Eckert, the fan advisory board will be fucking fuming at being lied to, they might have a revolt on their hands looking at who is on that. 2

No reason why he couldn’t be our manager in a few years (assuming he progresses as hoped) irrespective of Still going. The surprise for me has been leaving Lallana out in the cold, and not putting him in as interim. Not sure what we can read into that, perhaps he’ll be out on his arse when a new manager arrives with his own staff, or end of season.

Paulwantsapint81 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Has a certain Catalan returning had any influence on the last 2 games? Going to need a really combative performance against Jones’ Charlton
aintforever Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago They would be mental to appoint Eckert on the basis of the last two performances, we were lucky to get a win at QPR and Wednesday were just awful. 6

leeham_69 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Has Corberan been sacked? Interesting to see his name appear - the WBA guest on TSP last champ season talked about him like he was the messiah. Haven’t really followed his progress since.

Dusic Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 40 minutes ago, Appy said: He basically doesn’t have a clue Not so sure. David Ornstein suggested in his original post about Still sacking that Eckert was seen as a genuine candidate, also relayed via the likes of House, Blackmore etc. Since then we have won 2 from 2 and today certainly was better than many displays this season so they may see improvement despite poor opposition. By keeping Tonda they would have compo of likely paying off Trollope and also save on hiring new manager and backroom staff - clearly financially its the cheapest option having presumably unexpectedly having to pay off Still and sign Romeu. Plus nearly a week later the only other genuine link has been O'Neil who obviously won't happen. Nothing approaching a good source has linked any other names. Spors knows Eckert and brought him in, then selected him as caretaker over Trollope. So personally when you add it all together I think its more likely than not that he is in charge at Charlton. Last I read was that he was in thin ice. Saw his name linked with Middlesbrough. He was one those trendy managers a couple of years ago, but not sure what the attraction is from what I saw of WBA especially over the playoffs (just remember this animated bloke on the touchline). Skinny jeans and beard so could be somewhere on the Rasmus spectrum.

Badger Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago IF they appoint Eckert, wonder if they’ll bring in an experienced assistant to help him. This was Trollopes role for Still. Read on here that one of Ralph’s former assistants had been seen locally recently (Name similar to Richard Bitchkicker).
Appy Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago It shouldn’t be Eckert, it would be so shortsighted and unambitious, so they’ll probably be itching to do it. Logical thing is to say thanks to him, send him back to the under 21s and make a proper appointment. 1
Maggie May Posted 58 minutes ago Posted 58 minutes ago If there is weight behind this Rodgers rumour, then I am fully behind it. He’s beyond any calibre of manager we’ve been linked with for ages. He actually leaped to my mind as a possibility. I wonder if Solak triggered Still’s sacking after seeing Rodgers leave Celtic. I also have a gut feeling Dragan will be more involved in the next appointment. Surely he realises failed experiment after failed experiment can’t continue. We need someone with experience who can shake these players up. Ekert is not the answer.
HarvSFC Posted 32 minutes ago Posted 32 minutes ago The season Reading won the league they were sat in 16th place after 15 matches with 4 wins, 6 draws and 5 losses. Whose record does that sound similar to? Still a lot to play for this season.

I can see the temptation by the board to just limp into, say, 12th place from here. 1

Carrick has a 46.76% win ratio from 136 games as a manager. O'Neil shouldn't even be under consideration. As a manager he's won fewer games than Russell Martin, Ralph Hasenhuttl, Will Still, Ivan Juric and Nathan Jones. Not sure what you're trying to prove comparing win ratios between managers in different divisions. Between a manager tasked primarily with avoiding relegation in the hardest league in the world, and another tasked with gaining promotion at a club expected to running for it. Either way, its unlikely that O'Neil or Carrick will get the job, but we'll see
