Let's at least give him a chance and get behind the team. He's done a tremendous job with the U21s, and significantly improved players. Their win at Tottenham on Saturday took them up to 4th in Premier League 2. He was also a first team coach at Barnsley when they made the Championship play-offs in 2021.

He's certainly instilled some fighting spirit in that U21 team and he knows how to organise a defence as anyone who saw them battle to a a draw against the superior players of Real Madrid can testify.

I'm expecting him to have a positive impact on our first team now, but, of course, he's still going to be hampered, as Will Still was, by Sport Republic's poor recruitment and the team's lack of a proper spine.

Anyway, it makes sense to have an interim appointment now as I'm sure Sport Republic weren't anticipating having to sack Will Still.

At least he's on the case with getting a striker sorted. Baz up top to bag us some fire power.

As stated by some random journalist. The guy has never managed first team football anywhere before, it wont be him.

Not a random journo. If Ornstein is saying it then there must be something in it. I can’t believe they’d appoint him but, then again, I never thought they would appoint Selles off the back of one game…

No, they appointed Selles off the back of sacking Ralph, hiring Jones, giving him the world cup break to set his team up, signing a bunch of players to suit his game plan in January for about £60m, THEN sacking the bloke ten days after the transfer window closed, trying to appoint Jesse March, being rejected and saying, "oh f**k it, we give up."

We aren't at that stage yet. There are 33 games and a transfer window still ahead of us.

At the point in time Selles was appointed we were not dead and buried. He was another coach “highly rated” by SR who won one game and got the job. SR didn’t “give up”, they tried to be clever and cocked it up. Let’s not pretend there isn’t a chance they do it again with Eckert. Might be unlikely but it’s definitely not zero chance which, to be clear, it absolutely should be as it should have been with Selles.

So we go from a manager who never played to someone who has never managed. At this rate the next appointment could be somebody who has never seen a match.

That was the person who recommended buying Downs for £8 million.

From those employees currently working within the club he seems a sensible choice for an interim seeing as he's actually managing (or at least in charge of) a Saints team at the present time, unlike the first team coaches.

Next manager could very likely question the number of players on the books, and prepare the squad for a game against the fucking Carolina Panthers next Sunday.

Based on what he has done for the u21s in a short time I hope he does a good job Weds.

If we get a much improved performance then I'm happy for SR to string out the manager search a bit longer to see what he can do.

At this stage I've given up on "names" just give me results now.

Part of me wonders if SR pulled the trigger now, before two "easier" games in particular Sheffield Wednesday, because two wins under this guy could help them sell his full time appointment.

Put it this way - a lot of people on here were saying two wins this week wouldn't have changed their mind about keeping Still, so two wins this week for Eckert shouldn't get him the job either.

only idiots would think that would be a good idea. Much like those demanding/hoping we kept Still until the end of the season, no matter what.

As others have said, he’s done a very good job with the u21’s and is a highly rated / regarded coach. Danny Rohl, who a lot of people had rather we appointed, had also not managed a first team game until Sheffield Wednesday.

But now is just not the time for yet another gamble. The place is far too toxic at the moment and we need someone with experience to try and right the ship - if this guy gets the job permanently he will probably get about 5minutes grace from the fans. Plus if the players couldn’t be arsed before, this guy is hardly going to get them motivated.

This is exactly right, no one is saying Eckert is shit - he may be excellent, but he's never managed professional men's football and given our plight this is not the time to start playing again.

If we were established and had a really good core of players, we'd lost our manager to a PL club, it may be more of a suitable time for someone like him to take the reigns with the foundation let behind - but we have no foundation. It's way too big of a risk. In many ways, we need a manager who can help rebuild this club from the bottom and that isn't a 31 year old.

Strange that Trollope and the Llama haven’t been put in charge.

Strange that they are still with the Club. Everyone else went, even Carl Martin.

Lallana is moisturising coach, Trollope`s position is still to be decided

Did anyone actually demand we keep Still until the end of the season?

I get the interim bit - he’s doing well with the U-21’s. SR keeping him on is definitely an SR thing, but also characteristically really next level fucking stupid. Remember Wigley?  It’s that all over again.  Promoting someone doing well at a lower level in the club in the vain hope he’s the second coming. It broke Wigley and I predict it’ll break this guy if he’s given the job permanently.

It's because Tonda is being lined up to take over full time, this is his showcase game - much in the same way as Chelsea away was for Selles.

Please not another nonentity from nowhere with nothing on his CV for us to agonise over for three months before the inevitable chop

You filthy Trollope!

Is that Lallana's opening line as he brings out his skin care products?

Is a 32 year old who manages kids going to manage Romeu

They've both had experience at clubs who set high standards (i.e. not us in recent years). If Tonda isn't dim, he'll look to use that connection.

If you manage a bunch of players, you use those players

The teams under 21 are doing OK.

I just don't see Romeu coming if Eckert is managing, unless it's some 1980s odd couple voodoo

Realistically he's getting two games. I doubt Romeu will get more than ten minutes off the bench on Saturday.
