I think it can be safely said that when it comes to players, their positions, their importance to the team, goalkeepers are an afterthought at Southampton Football Club.

Peretz has made a couple of decent saves and seems more vocal to the players surrounding him but frankly on naughty looking crosses and corners coming in under the bar he reminds me of........me when I played!

Just for the record that is not a good thing.

Just for the record that is not a good thing.

Despite his tendency to punch the ball away instead of catching, he does at least try and deal with crosses. This makes him a huge upgrade on Bazunu in my book.

I thought he delivered several good fistings. Bit of a strange game, though.  They barely got a shot on target.

Not really sure what happened for the goal.

These kind of goals are becoming more and more common. If a team crowds the six yard box and surrounds the keeper a good delivery into the right area causes mayhem. We should be practicing both defending such corners and utilising them ourselves. It's becoming increasingly difficult for even the elite keepers to get to the ball - Peretz managed to punch away a few on Sunday and I wouldn't criticise him too much for their goal.

He looks good to me. Certainly for the championship. He made some great clearances at FP and I don't feel quite as nervous when the ball is played back - the equaliser wasn't his fault it was a messy affair around. 

His drop kicks were very good too.

There seems to be a tactic now of crowding around the keeper to obstruct him to get to the ball.

It's a modern fad. It all relies upon the attackers not being given offside if they jump out of the way at the last moment. Sometimes they get away with it. 

Something needs to change. Perhaps modify the Offside Law (again) so that just being in the goal area and offside constitutes interference?

Two absolutely top drawer saves today. He reacts quickly to come out to gather through balls as well - a notable one in the first half when Stephens had been beaten. 

The most telling thing for me is that he looks confident, rather than being terrified of the ball when it comes into the box.

A proper goalkeeper at last.

That save in the first half, top corner, was the sort of goal we've been letting in most weeks. Pertez has much better positioning and more of a spring in and strength in his wrists, basically he has the physical attributes you expect a GK to have.

Still a little bit flappy, I think he always will be - but he's a character and I think he's added some personality to our backline.

So is it now safe to say that Bazunu in fact wasn’t fine at all, for the championship ? And that it was fairly piss easy to find an immediate upgrade to come straight in and be better than him right away? Who’d have thought it

Still early days to fully judge him but it's looking positive, and following Scienza and Jander, I have no issue with SR continuing to look for gems in the German Leagues. Just less of the Downs please SR.

Baz was the perfect example of where the game went mad for a while (blame Pep) - a keepers distribution and starting plays from the back was more important than actual shot stopping. Same with 'inverted full backs' who cant fucking defend - we've got one of those too.

Good to see the game having a bit of a reset with so much emphasis on set plays and long throws etc this season......oh and a goalkeeper who saves a shot now and again 😂

If I'm not mistaken, Peretz was linked in the summer and we tried to sign him then but he chose HSV instead. Makes you wonder how much more in the mix we'd have been if we had him from the off (but appreciate we were still fucking around with not playing the most suitable formation, etc)

Obviously he is better at keeping the ball out of the net, but it's also clear how much of a bigger personality he js. And that's important for a keeper.

I've watched the replay of the save onto the post a few times now which shows how good it was. I can't remember watching replays of a single Bazunu save.

Equal parts mental and infuriating that we employed several managers who seemed to prioritise a ball playing but dreadful goalkeeper, rather than one that one that can keep the ball out of the net. So many points thrown in the bin

I’m with you to be fair there was the occasional save which made it more frustrating. Wrexham at home before the comeback.

He's got a real spring to his dives that Baz simply doesn't have. Baz just sort of flops sideways instead of launching himself sideways like a missile like you'd want. Great extension of the arm into the save as well.

Leicester at home 1 up was a very good one as well. But that and the Wrexham save are slender pickings from 2.5 seasons. Peretz produced as many in one game yesterday.

He seems to communicate a lot more and comes out too. Maybe doesnt catch as much as I'd like but at least makes a decision to do so from I've seen.

Having a back a 4 helps too.
