West Dean FC Legend Posted Monday at 16:22 Posted Monday at 16:22 I think it can be safely said that when it comes to players, their positions, their importance to the team, goalkeepers are an afterthought at Southampton Football Club. Peretz has made a couple of decent saves and seems more vocal to the players surrounding him but frankly on naughty looking crosses and corners coming in under the bar he reminds me of........me when I played! Just for the record that is not a good thing. 1 1

Just for the record that is not a good thing. Despite his tendency to punch the ball away instead of catching, he does at least try and deal with crosses. This makes him a huge upgrade on Bazunu in my book. 6
benjii Posted Tuesday at 06:36 Posted Tuesday at 06:36 I thought he delivered several good fistings. Bit of a strange game, though. They barely got a shot on target. Not really sure what happened for the goal.

Not really sure what happened for the goal. These kind of goals are becoming more and more common. If a team crowds the six yard box and surrounds the keeper a good delivery into the right area causes mayhem. We should be practicing both defending such corners and utilising them ourselves. It's becoming increasingly difficult for even the elite keepers to get to the ball - Peretz managed to punch away a few on Sunday and I wouldn't criticise him too much for their goal. 4
Yorkshire Saint Posted Tuesday at 09:44 Posted Tuesday at 09:44 (edited) He looks good to me. Certainly for the championship. He made some great clearances at FP and I don't feel quite as nervous when the ball is played back - the equaliser wasn't his fault it was a messy affair around. His drop kicks were very good too. It's a modern fad. It all relies upon the attackers not being given offside if they jump out of the way at the last moment. Sometimes they get away with it. Something needs to change. Perhaps modify the Offside Law (again) so that just being in the goal area and offside constitutes interference? 1
Osvaldorama Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago So nice to have a keeper that can make saves. I’ll forgive a couple of dodgy moments as he’s still rusty. 7
Sheaf Saint Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Two absolutely top drawer saves today. He reacts quickly to come out to gather through balls as well - a notable one in the first half when Stephens had been beaten. The most telling thing for me is that he looks confident, rather than being terrified of the ball when it comes into the box. A proper goalkeeper at last. 15
S-Clarke Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago That save in the first half, top corner, was the sort of goal we've been letting in most weeks. Pertez has much better positioning and more of a spring in and strength in his wrists, basically he has the physical attributes you expect a GK to have. Still a little bit flappy, I think he always will be - but he's a character and I think he's added some personality to our backline. 13
Sunglasses Ron Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago That one that hit the post, he got a touch didn’t he? Amazing save if so! 9

Mboto Gorge Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago So is it now safe to say that Bazunu in fact wasn’t fine at all, for the championship ? And that it was fairly piss easy to find an immediate upgrade to come straight in and be better than him right away? Who’d have thought it 8
bangkoksaint Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Bazunu was gash We’re better with a back 4 A proper striker makes a difference Who’d have thought it? Imagine if our clueless management had dialled into this weeks ago………. 7

Behind Enemy Lines Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago If Baz plays today, we would have lost. He would have let that first shot in, then our players heads drop, and we get rolled over. 1

Just less of the Downs please SR. 1

Lord Duckhunter Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Baz lets those 2 in today, and there would be posters saying they were impossible to save. Today should be the end of any Baz debate… 6
