Would suit Eckert’s style more than he did Martin’s and he was pretty good in that season at this level. I’d have him back, Larin and Adams would be two strong options to rotate

Although I’ve questioned the sell on % , have to credit the club for holding out for nearer our figure, when you consider what Middlesbrough sold Hackney for.

And he’s not getting that many mins at Torino. Think he would do a job rotating with Larin.

That goal Larin scored yesterday where it hit him on the nose, Adams put one over the bar from that distance a few times.

He's comical but I would love him back as those Manning crosses would be great service for his poaching skills.

Don't get me wrong he did miss some sitters but he isn't a comical footballer like Downs or BBD.

I reckon Che would suit a tondateam well. He works hard to get himself into space so, imo, would benefit from us seemingly getting the ball forward quicker, or at all even, compared to hewhomustnotbenamed days.

Hopefully we can use Lavia, Fernandes, Charles as examples of what we can do for him and his career.

I wonder if Charles joining Fulham makes Harrison Reed surplus to requirements. Only played a few games for them last season and must be way down the pecking order now.

I'd like some experienced players on short term deals...good enough to give us a go at promotion, help us in season 1 if we make it (even as squad players), but not be stuck with them for too long if we make it.

 Che did miss a few sitters, scored a few crackers but  his greatest attribute for me was his attitude, he played in some poor to terrible Saints sides and never stopped giving everything.

Very unlikely IMO. Che scored 16 goals last time and JWP is an experienced PL player. I'd bite your hand off for two players that good being in our price range.

Just my personal opinion, Im very happy with 30m for Charles. If I had to pick my best starting eleven last season he wouldn't have been in it So chuffed to get that much money for him.  Again, just my personal opinion and certainly nothing against him.

And also, Che Adams back here ? Jo fking way. Some people have got very short memories on just how average he was. I really feel we can do better than that, and before some smart arse asks me who, I dont know. Its not my job.

Hackney only went for £16m and he was very highly regarded, so £30m including add ons seems a very good price for  a championship player. He clearly has the first touch to play in the PL, so isn't any sort of risk for Fulham IMO, but I didn't think we would get that sum while we were in this division.  A shame to lose him, as he was just starting to fulfil his promise.

We won 2-0, had 74% possession and 25 shots. The 1st half looked a little rusty but it was the first competitive game and we looked a lot better as the game went on. Hardly a disaster!

Not for me.  JWP is just a sideways backwards midfielder.  We’ve got that in Downes but he’s a much better ball winner.  We’ve also have Manning and Scienza for set-pieces.  He’ll want big wages.

Che Adams has a poor touch and is a very average finisher.  He’ll want big wages. There are better options out there.

I'd like us to find the next Charles. Young talent that have a real chance of making it right to the top. The same up front. We have our experienced CF, we perhaps need to try again for a slightly younger guy.

Although I'd admit I was keen on Ings returning a few years ago , I've come to realise being infatuated with your ex's is a bad idea. 

Adams, JWP, Harrison Reed....nah ...we're better than this bunch of has beens. 

Fresh, talented, hungry players who have already gained experience elsewhere and are ready to come to a bigger , better Southampton.

Sorry to see Shea go but we have plenty of midfielders so no need to replace as such. Use (some of) the money to buy a striker now please. Another Larin type but maybe a bit younger and we'd have a bloody good side.

"The money"? We need to balance the books - this money isn't for transfers.

Losing Charles a consequence of our failure to go up last season. We had found a player here that could progress with us, rather than jump regardless. Had we been promoted I’d imagine we would have tied him up to a new deal. It’s a shame to lose him but we had to sell someone and this sale makes the most sense all things considered.

Provided we now use this to invest in a new CF and a replacement CM, whilst keeping our other big names, then it’s the lesser of many evils.

Going to sting seeing him flourish elsewhere and a reflection of our downfall in recent years that we now lose better players to your Fulham’s and West Ham’s rather than the big clubs. Do think he will play for one of those big clubs soon enough.

Yeah, I missed much of the second half to be fair. Sounds like we were much improved.

Squad is good enough to be right up there (with Tonda driving the bus).

We found money for Dobbin. Hard to believe that fee was absolutely everything we could afford with or without the Charles fee.  I'm not expecting £30mill on a striker  As I said *some* of the money.

Jeez. What short memories. Who changed the games yesterda?. Cam Bragg. Why are we talking about a Charles replacement, when he’s already on our books.

If he need anyone, it’s a fourth choice central midfielder, and maybe that is what was behind the Matsuki experiment yesterday. 

My only concern is that Downes andBragg are both 6s, though Downes can play more as an eight.

Alfie house suggesting we go for a cheaper option up front. Personally I think that would be nuts unless we are very certain the player we go for is going to be at least as good as Stewart. Feels unlikely to me.
