Frustrating/exciting in equal measures. Defence looks sooo fragile with Jos and Gazza. JRod getting better every game. Davis, Cork outstanding. We really need Lallana fit and playing. He's so core to our creativity and even to our ability to rapidly win the ball back. It often starts with him. Chambers such a great prospect. Lovren fantastic. Rickie and Ossie disappointed. 1-1 a fair result on the day, but I think we'll end up above them when all's said and done.

Deserved point. Best game I've seen from Steven Davis, he was excellent.

MP got the tactics wrong first half, but whats great is that he sees how to fix it.

Jos had a good game after his mistake, but it does make you wonder why Fonte did not start.

Gazza is a young 3rd choice keeper and to be honest showed it. This is not meant to be particularly critical of him as overall he did ok, but I would like to see us bring in someone else in Jan who can genuinely challenge Boruc

Toni Jimenez and Andy Woodman, goalkeeping coaches of Southampton and Newcastle respectively, were apparently sent off in the aftermath of the touchline set-to in their clubs' game. It looked for a moment there like the (goalkeeping) gloves were about to come off.

Don't think RL was that bad at all, he kept possession well, put in a couple of decent through balls and linked with Chambers quite nicely in the first half. He's never going to be the dynamic pacey centre forward some of us want him to be, but I still think he plays a crucial role in keeping the ball for us. Thought Cork had another tidy game and is slotting back in to his role of last year nicely.

J Rod

S Davis

C Chambers

MOM between these 3 for me..

Steve Davis the unsung hero.....tremendous workrate....very good strike that hit the post.

J Rod worked hard throughout......excellent centre forward second half...keept the pressure on and scoring excellent strikers goal.

Chambers ...once again impressive ....

Lallana and Morgan played well when they came on..

All in all a very good and well deserved point.

Well done you mighty Saints.

I truly, honestly believe that the reason Steven Davis is so unnoticed and underrated is because he's a ginger British guy with a boring name.

I'm serious.

He's a fantastic player, quick and feisty in the tackle, wins it, gives it, sees and executes everything quickly. Awesome stuff.

Agree 100%

Great performance again from Davis such a good player who never gets the recognition he should.Think we've proved in the last two games we have decent enough strength in depth to cope.Gazzaniga isn't good enough though we must sign a decent keeper in January.

Fonte IS on 4 bookings as is Morgan NOW..

Manager makes the decisions.....wisely in my opinion..

Must admit though......when Adam Lallana came on.....speed , trickery, work rate and gave lots for Newcastle to think about.

To be fair to Jos he completely missed the ball for their goal...but did play well as the game wore on.

For all those whining , moaning , crying ,WUM and making silly comments......:mcinnes:

We are still the best football team in the world....:D

I am such a happy clapper.....I hurt my poor little hands and lost my voice when we scored:)

Very good result considering we had a lot of injuries. Gazza not v good at all. Osvaldo awful, lambert struggling, chambers and shaw and lovren v good. Lallana made a difference and Morgan wasn't fit but did okay. J rod getting better every game. Roll on next week.

Gazza 5-awful error second half. Not convinced.

Chambers 7- Clyne better at mo but he did v well.

Lovren 8-class.

Hooiveld 4-awful error

Shaw 8-brilliant game.

Cork 7-solid.

Jwp 5- poor again. Struggling.

Davis 7- made the goal but messed up a couple of crucial passes when it was 1-1 when we had great options. Maybe harsh.

J rod 8-always a threat. Is that 5 goals in 6?

Lambert 5-better second half but not picking right pass or getting in right areas.

Osvaldo 3-awful. No effort at all. Just doesn't look what we need.

Subs:

Lallana 7-don't know why he didn't start. Playing well.

Morgan 6-didn't look as sharp as usual but can't wait til he's fit against spurs.

Team against spurs:

Davis(if fit)

Clyne(chambers) fonte lovren shaw

Cork Morgan

S Davis lallana j rod

Lambert:

Subs: Gazza, osvaldo, Ramirez, chambers(Clyne), jwp, hooiveld, Gallagher.

Clyne needs to play if fit as they have two v quick wingers.

Despite our recent defence cock ups following the six past Arsenal today we have also regained the best defensive record with 15 conceded (same as Everton)

We have come through a tough period with a number of key injured players continued playing well out and have not really collapsed against anyone. All bodes well going forward with a young inexperienced team,

Terrible first half. Newcastle were much the better side despite having little possession. Adam and Morgan on in the 2nd and Saints were much, much better. Brilliant attempt by Davis which hit the post before the goal from Rodriguez. Thought apart from the mistake from Jos for the Newcastle goal, our defence looked pretty good. Gazza still showing that he as his nervy moments but is still young and his actual shot stopping is excellent. All the game time he is getting can only help him. I think Gazza is going to be a great keeper in the future. Just needs to be a bit more authoritative, which will come.

Got to agree, Steven Davis for MOM. Had a storming game, was everywhere. Good tackling and break up play. An un-sung hero in the Saints team.

The evidence to support your opinion of Gazza has bypassed me.

We are currently experiencing the part of the season we dreaded most. The attrition of the team by injuries. Considering that two of those injuries are to our first two keepers along with the rest, especially Wanyama, we should currently be in just about the worst case scenario right now.

Given that, we are doing extraordinarily well, all things considered.

An average score of 5.8 from you for the team that has just got an away draw at a very good side above us in the league ? Enough said.

Gazzaniga didn't let us down. The mistake he made under pressure from an awkward ball from Lallana, apart from that he was alright, that mistake didn't even begin to compare with Artur Boruc's aberration v Arsenal. He is a young, inexperienced lad playing in the most unforgiving place on the football pitch and he's all we've got. Lambert lost Williamson, Hooiveld sliced his clearance for the goal. Caught out of goal twice but caught the header, made a save then Chambers cleared off the line. Slaughtering him isn't going to make him better.

Davis probably had his best game to date, shame about the shot, a couple of inches to the right and it was in. A lung buster run to the right and a perfect pass to Rodriguez to score.

In the end a good result at an in form team.

Agreed, when you consider we started today with 5 of our first choice back 7 players out injured, it could have been a lot, lot worse.

Good game, decent result.

Little vid of the touchline bust up

SphericalUniformBronco.gif

Good clip.

Their coach is shoved out of it by a steward.

MP appears to do a good job in sorting it, and getting our lot back to the bench.

Pardew stands, hands in pockets throughout watching, then makes some feeble dismissive wavy gesture at the end of it all.

I don't see Osvaldo involved in the skirmish here.

Agreed. We are playing all top half teams with our third choice keeper and without our most effective defensive CM and our regular right back (international standard player).

Yet we look confident on the ball and off it, we do not look remotely over-awed, we look like we know how to play football and we have the youngest team in the league.

Whatever it takes we need to hang onto the manager and let him build the squad into one of the top teams in the division next season.
