Every version of FFP/ PSR/ SCR just makes it worse.

The latest iteration is the most blatant yet in terms of being designed to ensure the traditional big clubs can horde all the money and players and basically never be threatened again. The way it's been designed is so transparent, it's a farce and just destroys any notion of encouraging fair competition. The entire rest of the league is basically just being set up to be a feeder system for six clubs, forever.

I agree, but at least 14 of the 20 Premier League clubs voted for it. There was an additional proposal which was anchoring spend against the lowest income but this didn't get through. This would have limited the spending power of all clubs but I think even clubs like B'mouth, Brighton and Palace voted against it.

Unless this was all discussed and agreed, I feel sorry for him. It's unlikely they will get into the CL again any time soon.

I wonder why a club like Bournemouth would have voted against it?

Or any European competition the way they are going. You don't drop down to the Europa if you get knocked out the league stage now either.

Harsh on THB. Emery said it was a "footballing" decision too...

Doesn't look like it was discussed until the day before. Feel sorry for THB, he presumably was looking forward to a CL campaign, or at least being a part of it.

Football, financial fair play, all of it, it sucks.

I heard that anecdotally but I can’t find evidence of who voted for and against. Seems like Utd and City voted against which you’d expect.

Not even a sub for Villa today.

Weird thing he’s not mentioned on FotMob as being injured 🤕 not even part of the squad

Would like to know just how hard we tried to keep him. He would have been instrumental in our promotion push this year.

We are missing him and didnt really get that much cash when you deduct the Dobbin rebate, shame all round he's probably sat at home playing xbox

Can we get him back on loan as we still can't defend crosses!

Perhaps he didn't take being not being named in the CL squad too well ....

It's a bizarre situation all round!

Emery is a strange character, if he wasn’t totally sold on THB he won’t pick him unless he really has to.

Don't think we had a prayer of keeping him once Villa were interested unfortunately.

Unai Emery likes to take his time bedding new players into his system.

I don’t think there’s much more to it other than that.

Exactly what I think, his last game was Against Watford 3 weeks ago so may need to get up to premier league fitness levels.

I don't believe he was Emery's choice, they seem like a bit of a broken club at the moment - I don't think Emery will be there much longer.

I doubt he thought it would start like this, he's nowhere near the team.

I heard from this random guy that after signing Schlotterbeck the Football League forced us in to selling THB because having both Schlotterbeck and THB in defence would be cheating and unfair towards the other teams in the league.

I guess today is the last day before Villa can cancel the order - and they have the international window to drive him back to Southampton, and Saints to issue a refund.

Back for Pompey. Win win.

I thought he was the one making the decisions there?

I wouldn’t go that far. He’s a big upgrade on Stephens however.

What a pity THB didn't stay. He and Schlotterbeck would have made an awesome pairing. THB's limitations were probably caused by Stephens's inadequacies and the need for THB to keep one eye on him and not be able to fully concentrate on his own job.

What a load of old fucking pony. I get Stephen’s is the scapegoat, but now he’s getting blamed for somebody else poor form. THB played like a drain for Will Still, that’s on THB, not Jack Stephen’s or Will Still, or anyone else for that matter. Had we sold him in Jan, not many will have cared. The German bloke is an upgrade on THB from Aug-Jan, whether he is overall, only time will tell.

And yet we still can't keep a clean sheet?!

He’s not perfect and obviously always conceding a goal isn’t on him. Although sure we’d still be unbeaten if Schlott had that sitter THB missed at Watford

Schlott is hands down defensively better than THB … positional play is outstanding!!

Quite , that clearance off the line from Ballard was match defining in my mind , definitely an improvement !

Not saying he can pick a pass like Taylor but he’s learning still & getting up to speed with championship! Absolute snip for what we paid for him !
