Lymington Saint Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago After seeing Shea Charles' worldie at SMS yesterday, I was wondering how it compared to other great goals. So what is the best Saints goal you have ever seen? I was at the Dell for the Liverpool game in 1982 and saw Channon's goal at the end of 18 passes. For me that is the best I have seen. Your thoughts? 2
Osvaldorama Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago For me it depends if you’re talking about pure strikes or team goals. I wasn’t at the game yest but it was right up there. Ricky lamberts half-volley lob from 40 yards sticks in the mind. Ridiculous goal. Cuco martina’s curler or Sofiane Boufal’s mazy run are another two that stick out for me. In terms of team goals, can basically pick any pochettino game. The football we played at times was breathtaking. Jrod/lallana/lambert on the counter in their prime was quality.
Toadhall Saint Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago The best team goal without doubt the one in the Keegan/Channon era - a thing of beauty. Individual MLT against NUFC when he flicks it over two of their defenders and side foots it into the corner (but there are numerous others from him). I class myself as very lucky to have seen most of his as they happened and the team goal above. 7
Paulwantsapint81 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago MLT scored/ was involved with so many he didn’t surprise any saints fan especially those in junior saints seats Eyal Berkovic v Man Utd Dani Oswaldo was pretty special v Man City 2

Your thoughts? Yes I was there for that one and have to agree. The other team goal that sticks out from years gone by was when we hammered Notts Forest 4-1 at The Dell and Phil Boyer finished off the move. Sadly I can't find it on You Tube. Block 5 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Stern John's hat trick goal vs Hull in 2007 was pretty memorable for me.
Turkish Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago It wasn’t a Saints goal but one of the best goals and most memorable goals I’ve ever seen live was Kevin Sheedy against us either late 80s or early 90s it was a 1-1 draw at the Dell. sheedy picked up the ball on the right cut inside and put it top corner archers road end from about 30 yards. These were the days when there wasn’t much football on TV or access to goals all around the world so as a kid about 12 or 13 I was awestruck as to the goal. 2
Lee On Solent Saint Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago No question, Le Tiss against Arsenal, last league game at The Dell. Just for pure emotion. He's scored better no doubt, but just for the occasion alone it has to be that one. 8
Kenilworthy1959 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Tom Jenkins at West Ham in August 1970. Left six defenders, including Bobby Moore, on their backsides before scoring. Sadly no footage exists. Geoff Hurst equalised through a dodgy penalty 1

I don’t think I have ever heard a goal celebrated so loudly. 2
Lighthouse Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Just copying my own post from the match thread. 15 hours ago, Lighthouse said: It's hard to put them in order but for games when I've actually been in the stadium it's competing with: Osvaldo vs Man City Thomas vs Ipswich Lambert away at MK Dons Lallana vs Hull Pelle vs QPR Plus a whole smorgasbord of free kicks from Lambert, Vignal, JWP, Bale and randomly Chris Baird. Glad to see the MK goal getting remembered by other people. It often slips under the radar because it was away in League 1 but it really was a cracker. Tiss vs Blackburn - esq in awareness and precision. 1

LoyalSaintSO50 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Plenty of the above. For individual John Barnes v Brazil style, pass it ffs pass it nah keep going my son, Marsden at Ipswich, Kevin Davies at Everton, Boufal at home West Brom Celebration wise, Rasiak away at Derby play offs 89th minute took some beating. Obviously didn’t end well but in the context when that went in, bedlam 2
Sheaf Saint Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Probably a bit of recency bias here but Stewart's goal at Bramall Lane earlier this season is right up there with the best I have seen from the stands.
bpsaint Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Agree with most of these, seeing Osvaldo and Martina live were pretty special. Stuart Armstrong against Coventry though, being sat behind the shot and seeing the way that ball moved was pretty incredible. 2

obelisk Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Has to be Franny Benali against Leicester for me. Picked out by a MLT free kick and I was right behind the header as it powered into the net. A real one-off. 1
RedArmy Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Of the ones I haven’t seen mentioned… Bairds free kick against Cardiff was a belter.
RedArmy Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Delap’s bicycle kick against Spurs too. One of the purest strikes from a bicycle kick you’ll ever see.
Football Special Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago For me it was one of Le Tiss magic moments, Blackburn away 94/95 season, very few of us up there for that game Le Tiss last game at The Dell has to be up there for all round meaning, felt like time stood still as it fell to him and celebrations when it went in were off the scale. Special mention for Long away to Liverpool semi final, great team move on the break 3
rallyboy Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago That Channon one is the ultimate team goal, while Boufal's takes some beating as an individual effort and it was a massive goal in the context of the season. Martina's was nuts, and a mention for Rothwell's volley against Huddersfield. Shea's yesterday was special, especially if like me you were fortunate enough to have an angle to see the path of the ball and how much it curled. You could watch it a hundred times, and I probably will. Great moment. 4
Lord Duckhunter Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Another vote for the Arsenal last game one for me. Iconic, summed the man up. Was clearly not really fit, from memory hadn’t scored many that season, sent on as a romantic gesture, just saw a glimmer of an opportunity to write his own headline, and smashed in an absolute belter. Genius summed up, it’s not just about ability, it’s about producing it at the most dramatic moment. 5

He still had a good career but definitely think doing his knee in etc curtailed it a bit. 1
warsash saint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I was there for most of MLT's wordies - the goal at Ewood Park probably the pick i have seen in the flesh. Ivan Golac's goal against WBA probably in second place 1

Kevin Sheedy did similar in 1985/86 at the Dell in the last minute, Everton winning 2-3.

Missed it, my old man used my season my ST whilst I was watching the WI v England Test in Barbados. I was very noisy when they played a clip of it on TV in St Lawrence Gap.
Gloucester Saint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Personally, as with Warsash and others, was there for plenty of MLT specials. Not just the Sky era ones but the 4th in a 4-1 with v Norwich (if you were there, you’ll know the goal I mean), and in the game he missed his only penalty, a 30 yard special in the second half v Forest. In terms of non-MLT goals, Beattie v WBA was a blistering hit. Marian v the skates my ST seat was in line with and taking into the occasion. Fernandes free kick v W Ham was an absolute hammer for 2-0. Peach of a volley from Lloyd James in the 1st minute at Brentford midweek. Lallana v Hull, Matt Oakley v skates in the Cup and his flick up free kick v Hull had shades of MLT - never see it mentioned, didn’t especially rate him as a player but they were fine goals. For the opposition, Tugay at SMS for Blackburn was a piledriver, Scott Parker with two stunners for Charlton which were applauded by parts of the Kingsland North in a 3-2 win for Saints, Sheedy x2 as @Turkish cited and Norman Whiteside with two long range monsters either side of half-time also for Everton in a 2-2 draw. Best long range hit at SMS was Mark Venus for Ipswich in WGS’s first game. 30 yard thunderbolt which made one heck of a noise in the net/stanchion when it flew in. Anyone else remember it?
Addict54 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I always tell people Mark Venus goal was objectively the best strike I’ve ever seen live Claus at Wolves wins it for me 😉 1
Wade Garrett Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Le Tissier’s flick up and volley against Wimbledon when Bally took over and saved us from relegation. 3
Jaime Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Barry Horne thunderbastard against Swindon (I think) in the league Cup. A defender ducked to avoid being decapitated 2

EssEffCee Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Yesterday right up there for me. Other ones which immediately come to mind are Delap v Spurs and Rothwell v Huddersfield.

Barton Saint Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Matts goal v Arsenal at the Dell Bobby Stokes at Wembley Actually the list is endless…
Badger Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Mine have already been mentioned. Mick Channon v Liverpool 1981/2 - as Gerald Sinstadt said in the commentary “you won’t see a better goal than that …” ( you can dispense with last two words ‘this season’). Individual brilliance- MLT’s first v Newcastle taking it past two defenders … Greatest goals as in most important Moran v Skates 1984, and of course Bobby Stokes in 1976. Honourable mention to Stuart Armstrong v Coventry 1
Badger Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Coventry fan told us last weekend the best ‘away’ goal he’d ever seen at Highfield Road was from MLT. Think it was in the 3-1 when we had Ekelund with us 1

Appy Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Lambert at MK Osvaldo v City (The way he turned a player as good as Kompany)
benjii Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago For me it's the MLT flicky-uppy run against Newcastle at the Dell. My absolute hero at the time, and a goal that really expressed his unique style. But, so many brilliant ones. Trying to think of one that hasn’t been mentioned. It's not objectively great, but Ostenstad's bullet from a tight angle against Schmeichel always stuck in my mind. Also, MLT first against Liverpool in the snow. Again, iconic for me. Young kid, freezing my arse off, midweek match, which always had a special feeling, after 30 seconds he just smashes it low and hard with curve on the half volley out of nowhere. Magic.
BallBoy Posted 42 minutes ago Posted 42 minutes ago Not mentioned yet but Armstrong v Man Utd. Late winner in 3-2 win following the Keegan goal that never was because Armstrong was offside! That Keegan "goal" would have been up there with the best. For me though it has to be Matty v Arsenal. Pure, unrestrained joy. 1

Anyone else remember it? I remember it well, wasn’t it the equaliser in a 3-3 draw? I recall it being quite similar to the Tugay one you mentioned from the same season. Good shout on that Fernandes free kick too, no finesse just an absolute rocket straight into the top corner. I remember Anders goal against Spurs in the cup quite fondly, that was a hell of a performance that night. Theo against Luton back in the day was a good goal with a cracking lob, same with Che vs City, shame none of us were there to see it.
