Raul Jimenez if Stewart doesn’t sign, or is that unrealistic?

I'd like to see us get the young Spurs striker on loan who was at Oxford last season, knows the division and a modest loan fee good for the budget

I'm not certain there's much of a market for Ramsdale - he's a ten-a-penny keeper on huge wages coming off an underwhelming loan at a lower mid-table premier league side. You're not signing him for £15m+ and a big salary unless he's going to be first choice. Looking at that league, I can only realistically see Leeds perhaps trying to get a new number one in, and possibly a promoted team, if Coventry can't make Rushworth's loan permanent.

He'll probably end up being loaned out again.

You're right, there is not a huge number of teams looking for a new number 1. Leeds and Chelsea need one.

Neither have I. I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some links to him and Jwp hasn't at least asked the question. Not sure how we would afford the wages unless it's a loan.

JWP as CAM cover and CM?

Azaz / JWP

Downes/Bragg  (Charles/Jander)/JWP

If the moneys right we could do worse, he was still starting in the prem for Burnley back half of the season

Aye... Seems a tad unprompted... Which suggests he might know something... Planting a seed to test fan reaction...? Perhaps... Perhaps not...

It’s a plausible rumour. He’s basically finished at West Ham, one year left on his contract and Nuno obviously doesn’t think much of him. We probably wouldn’t be able to afford his wages, but I doubt the Hammers would get 100%from anyone else. Selling Jander and Charles whilst getting JWP on loan for 75% wages makes a lot of sense financially, we probably make £40m net profit out of it.

& we’re due our annual Walcott / Lallana / Romeu #SaintsFC phoenix from the flame comeback.

He had his time at the club and was a great servant. Time to move on and he's nothing like the player he was for us. He'd encourage the sideways and backwards football which we have left behind thankfully.

And be a much weaker side as well. Great idea.

“Testing the waters” in regards to JWP, or any player linked with coming back is a tad over the top.

Seriously if you were brokering a deal would you really give a shit what people thought? Probably not, so long as you get paid a handsome wedge.

The books are going to have to be balanced somewhere, I’d much rather do this and keep players like Scienza. We got promoted before with Aribo, Smallbone and Downes, we can get promoted next year with JWP, Bragg and Downes. There would probably be a fourth option too, for a reasonable price or on loan.

As this year's Romeo / Lallana / Walcott etc., I think we could do worse, if he's cheap enough and is on the bench more often than on the pitch ...

But yeah, not a priority.

If jwp wants to play to TE tactics would be a good move but he would have to realise Manning takes freekicks as well & Larin is a proper target man

Truly this.

Manning swings in a great free kick both sides of the pitch.

Dont personally think he does great corners which is a surprise.

Would I want JWP back?

Not a chance as he left when we needed him most and he was well on his way to MLT status but he fucked that up by leaving us.

Here we go again with the JWP links. Funny how Blackmore claims JWP "can get the ball forward quickly" out of everything that's the thing he does the least!

Wouldn't mind him as a loan to cover Jander or Charles (whichever one doesn't leave) but that's about it.

Yeah agree , don’t want him back. He left us in the shit.

I really thought Romeu coming back would offer something as a sub, look how that turned out. JWP has declined as much as Romeu yet he was never as good in the first place.

Need to stop going backwards and start signing players for the future.

Yep that raised an eyebrow when reading Blackmore's comments, JWP frustratingly didn't do that enough when here.

Can't really see (or the need for) it happening, if it somehow did he'd get my support, It might rekindle his form at a club he was comfortable at and he's surely a decent talent for Championship level. But those wages.....

JWP was a slow propaganda player with a heck of a dead ball delivery. These days he seems to be just a slower propaganda player - would be perfect for a Russell Martin team, but for a Tonda team will just frustrate by not moving the ball forward.

Not for me.  Another Walcott/Lallana signing.

Plus, he is the epitome of crab football.  Don’t want more of that.

Jander can tackle, Charles likes to drive forward.  JWP has neither of these qualities.  Would basically be draining any profit away.

JWP was excellent when he was next to an enforcer like Oriol Romeu, and actually in his early career under Koeman when he made cameo appearances I thought he did ok in a attacking midfield position.

But a deep holding midfielder isn’t the player I’d be looking for in him.

We want creativity. Downes, Charles, Jander and Bragg already cover that box-to-box/holding midfield role.

Some of you need to think a bit more outside of the box, signing JWP would give us an experienced midfielder and also access to his friends and family discount at his Dads law firm , could actually save us money overall

Assume we have Romeu and Aribo wages off the books now.

One of the enjoyable parts of last season was watching central midfielders like Charles, Jander and Downes - the latter two intercepting, tackling and disrupting, and also capable of attack minded play while Charles played the creative, attacking role well with some improvement needed on his defensive skills.     Why go back to a cautious, slow build up and sideways passing Ward=Prowse.   He would be expensive and at this stage of his career, inferior to the three mentioned, with back up from Bragg.   Even if Jander or Charles go. we need better than JWP.
