Raul Jimenez if Stewart doesn’t sign, or is that unrealistic?

I'd like to see us get the young Spurs striker on loan who was at Oxford last season, knows the division and a modest loan fee good for the budget

I'm not certain there's much of a market for Ramsdale - he's a ten-a-penny keeper on huge wages coming off an underwhelming loan at a lower mid-table premier league side. You're not signing him for £15m+ and a big salary unless he's going to be first choice. Looking at that league, I can only realistically see Leeds perhaps trying to get a new number one in, and possibly a promoted team, if Coventry can't make Rushworth's loan permanent.

He'll probably end up being loaned out again.

You're right, there is not a huge number of teams looking for a new number 1. Leeds and Chelsea need one.

Neither have I. I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some links to him and Jwp hasn't at least asked the question. Not sure how we would afford the wages unless it's a loan.

JWP as CAM cover and CM?

Azaz / JWP

Downes/Bragg  (Charles/Jander)/JWP

If the moneys right we could do worse, he was still starting in the prem for Burnley back half of the season

Aye... Seems a tad unprompted... Which suggests he might know something... Planting a seed to test fan reaction...? Perhaps... Perhaps not...

It’s a plausible rumour. He’s basically finished at West Ham, one year left on his contract and Nuno obviously doesn’t think much of him. We probably wouldn’t be able to afford his wages, but I doubt the Hammers would get 100%from anyone else. Selling Jander and Charles whilst getting JWP on loan for 75% wages makes a lot of sense financially, we probably make £40m net profit out of it.

He had his time at the club and was a great servant. Time to move on and he's nothing like the player he was for us. He'd encourage the sideways and backwards football which we have left behind thankfully.

“Testing the waters” in regards to JWP, or any player linked with coming back is a tad over the top.

Seriously if you were brokering a deal would you really give a shit what people thought? Probably not, so long as you get paid a handsome wedge.

The books are going to have to be balanced somewhere, I’d much rather do this and keep players like Scienza. We got promoted before with Aribo, Smallbone and Downes, we can get promoted next year with JWP, Bragg and Downes. There would probably be a fourth option too, for a reasonable price or on loan.

As this year's Romeo / Lallana / Walcott etc., I think we could do worse, if he's cheap enough and is on the bench more often than on the pitch ...

But yeah, not a priority.

If jwp wants to play to TE tactics would be a good move but he would have to realise Manning takes freekicks as well & Larin is a proper target man

Truly this.

Manning swings in a great free kick both sides of the pitch.

Dont personally think he does great corners which is a surprise.

Would I want JWP back?

Not a chance as he left when we needed him most and he was well on his way to MLT status but he fucked that up by leaving us.

Here we go again with the JWP links. Funny how Blackmore claims JWP "can get the ball forward quickly" out of everything that's the thing he does the least!

Wouldn't mind him as a loan to cover Jander or Charles (whichever one doesn't leave) but that's about it.

Yeah agree , don’t want him back. He left us in the shit.

I really thought Romeu coming back would offer something as a sub, look how that turned out. JWP has declined as much as Romeu yet he was never as good in the first place.

Need to stop going backwards and start signing players for the future.

Yep that raised an eyebrow when reading Blackmore's comments, JWP frustratingly didn't do that enough when here.

Can't really see (or the need for) it happening, if it somehow did he'd get my support, It might rekindle his form at a club he was comfortable at and he's surely a decent talent for Championship level. But those wages.....

JWP was a slow propaganda player with a heck of a dead ball delivery. These days he seems to be just a slower propaganda player - would be perfect for a Russell Martin team, but for a Tonda team will just frustrate by not moving the ball forward.

Not for me.  Another Walcott/Lallana signing.

Plus, he is the epitome of crab football.  Don’t want more of that.

Jander can tackle, Charles likes to drive forward.  JWP has neither of these qualities.  Would basically be draining any profit away.

JWP was excellent when he was next to an enforcer like Oriol Romeu, and actually in his early career under Koeman when he made cameo appearances I thought he did ok in a attacking midfield position.

But a deep holding midfielder isn’t the player I’d be looking for in him.

We want creativity. Downes, Charles, Jander and Bragg already cover that box-to-box/holding midfield role.

Some of you need to think a bit more outside of the box, signing JWP would give us an experienced midfielder and also access to his friends and family discount at his Dads law firm , could actually save us money overall

Assume we have Romeu and Aribo wages off the books now.

One of the enjoyable parts of last season was watching central midfielders like Charles, Jander and Downes - the latter two intercepting, tackling and disrupting, and also capable of attack minded play while Charles played the creative, attacking role well with some improvement needed on his defensive skills.     Why go back to a cautious, slow build up and sideways passing Ward=Prowse.   He would be expensive and at this stage of his career, inferior to the three mentioned, with back up from Bragg.   Even if Jander or Charles go. we need better than JWP.

I think Spors hasn’t got the credit he deserves since joining.  He has made two mistakes so far, Still and Downs.  Set against that, are Peretz, Azaz, Latin, Scienza, Fellows and Jander all clear success plus of course Tonda (on field!).  I haven’t given up yet either on Quarshie and Roeslev but they would be in jury out space.

Not only has he set us up well on the field with those signings but we have very sellable assets if needed for the future.

This was a really good read. The more I hear from Dragan the more confidence he gives me as a supporter. You don't get to be a billionaire without some financial nous after all 😂

His points around parachute payments are a perfect example of uninformed pundits and podcasters bringing them up as a false flag for financial stability in the Championship. They really are there to ensure clubs don't get liquidated the minute they are relegated.

He’s done well. Biggest mark against him is signing Downs… he’s genuinely the worst player I’ve ever seen, so I am still very concerned at how they decided he was a good fit.

It does seem as though they learned from that mistake with Larin though. Long may the good recruitment continue. It’s what caused us to be relegated in the first place so we have to get it right

Yep, I always felt he was a more effective player when deployed in the 'number 8' role rather than as a 'number 6'... The only trouble is, now he's in his 30s, the tendancy will be to play him deeper because he'll have inevitably lost some pace that is crucial to the '8' role (yes, I know he was never the fastest player in the world in the first place, but it's all relative...)

I'm going to sit on the fence on this one... #noshitsherlock ;)

I'd add Downes as a better battler, just to cover all of our midfield slots.

For the things I do like about JWP, we shouldn't be paying a sizeable wage, by our standards, for anyone who isn't a starter.

Not to mention, it also gets in the way of Bragg's progression. A player Tonda likes.

I agree he deserves a lot of credit for the majority of players he's acquired, but given the scale of those two mistakes, which ultimately cost us automatic promotion, he's still got some reputational negative equity to pay back IMO. Win the league this season and I'll be at the front of the adoration queue.

We should stop being the final pay day for former players at the end of their careers. JWP said he was only going to a top team and went to.... West Ham where he couldn't even get in the team that was relegated.

I would think the only way we would sign JWP is on loan if West Ham cover half his wages for the final year of his contract.  But I can see him ending up at Everton or Fulham to give them midfield depth on that deal.

People forget JWP started as a AM/CM playing on the right of a midfield 3 or on the right of the 3 behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1.   He was more than capable of putting in the killer through ball /pass or cross from the right- and had a good engine.

Ralph then turned him into a DM/CM in the 4-2-2-2 but it only worked when he played alongside someone more physical like Romeu -but for a time he was great there.

Like a lot of our players he lost his way under a succession of bad managers.  But then he left because we needed the money more than anything else.

I'd be OK with him coming back but I am not sure where he'd fit in our current 4-2-3-1 as a first choice.

If so Blackmore's "machine" description has developed a fault.

I can't remember actually scoring from a JWP dead ball delivery, either free kicks or corners. I am sure it must of happened, but I can't recall it. We were useless at set pieces when he was here for the last few years at least.

Unless it was a direct shot of course.

I know that's partly down to having something to attack the ball, and this league is different but we have been much more threatening from set pieces without JWP.

I wonder if we will make a move for some of the players we were linked with last summer like Dejan Zukic to provide cover for AZAZ at number 10.

We were supposedly looking at Lucas  Cepeda on the left to replace Edozie if we sold him last summer - maybe that will happen this summer.

We were also rumoured to looking at Besfort Zeneli as an alternative to Jander in midfield.  Could we take another look if Jander leaves this summer.

Both Zeneli and Cepeda moved in January though - and seemingly have done well at their new clubs.

Do you think Bazunu and George Long would be of suitable quality to get us promoted after a long term Peretz injury? Really? 😅

If you think that our goalkeeping business is now done, and set in stone for the new season, then you've left Ramsdale out of that lineup. I'd be very happy with Peretz, with Ramsdale backup; Baz and Long fighting it out for cone duties. But I realise that a Ramsdale deal is almost certainly already done, and that we still have the best part of three months of the transfer window being open to sort other deals too.

It felt like this was going to be a very long summer with players leaving left, right and centre after Spygate. The three deals the club have done already are an excellent sign of the club making plans and getting things done early; so let's maybe not throw our toys out of the pram that the goalkeeping lineup isn't exactly what we'd want at two months out from the season starting.
