Whens the Saudi window close? Could see some club there picking him up (and hopefully pays over the odds)

October 10th I think.

He played for them at youth level, but he supports West Brom.

He's mentioned several times that his boyhood hero (and later mentor) was Jussi Jääskeläinen, so had assumed a Bolton fan.  Saw this as a good thing when he signed for Saints, as he said that a key reason was the chance to play every week, and emulate JJ's 500 appearences for Bolton. Hope the club can reach an agreement to get him in the first team squad for a promotion push, as him and Peretz in the PL would give us hell of a goalkeeping pairing.

He wants to stay and fight for his place...

Quote

This summer, Aaron Ramsdale made it clear he was keen to stay at Southampton where he's a big character in the dressing room, and challenge for his place. His high wages are understood to be 'manageable' thanks to a relegation clause.

Ramsdale had enough of moving around clubs to what would be a fourth new side in three years so he only wanted to do so if the offer was 'too good to refuse' and turned down interest throughout the window, including from clubs in Scotland, Spain and Germany.

Well that's a good thing. I mean Peretz is brilliant and I love him being number 1, but, he does need someone to keep him on his toes and make him keep pushing himself, it won't hurt both of them.

So:

• Peretz is #1

• Ramsdale is backup #1 and training keeper

• Long is #2

• Jones is training keeper

All semantics, but good to know that Ramsdale will likely play if Peretz doesn't.

More like: he doesn't want to go to Saudi or Turkey or anywhere.

We've tried to get him out but we can't. No one else that he could conceivably go to wanted him.

Be interesting to see how we play it when the very last window shuts.

I’m sure we are not playing him as we can’t afford to, he’s probably got some kind of appearance money if he plays - hence he’ll only play if Peretz gets injured.

Money is tight now we are in our 2nd season in the championship and his reported basic wage is way over our budget as it is.

Yeah, that's what I reckon. An appealing Prem move never happened and he's not keen on abroad move with his current family situation, which is fair enough. I think we are still very keen for him to go as we need wages off books so nothing will change until all windows are shut.

He seems to me a player that hit the heights then wasn't highly rated by the Prem clubs , which is why he ended up at Saints . I don't think he is interested in playing abroad and despite his outgoing persona probably is not overly ambitious person and would be happy at Saints if the financial position was sorted out . This is only my feeling based on what little we see in the media !!!

Crazy situation, incredible to think that Aaron Ramsdale is our backup GK. Too good to be our 1st choice let alone backup.

I guess at least it keeps Peretz on his toes though.

Absolutley ridiculous to leave him out the playing squad currently. Whilst Peretz deserves the number 1 jersey at the moment his position needs to be challenged.

I can only assume there is something contractually that we don’t know about that the club don’t want to pay him. Appearance fees for example?

The headline that he is 'fourth choice' is obviously nonsense. If Peretz did get injured, he'd be brought straight back in to the first team without any hesitation.

You would certainly think so.

The fact that Tonda's told Long that he's No 2 doesn't mean he'll ever be No 1.

But if a non story really.

Player went out on loan with little success. Replacement came in and showed he was capable. Peretz now rightly has the number one spot to lose.

Yes but Ramsdale isn’t competing for the number one spot in form. It seems that the only way he’ll get the spot is if Perez gets injured. At the moment Ramsdale isn’t even training with the first team group. So, yeah, it is a bit of a story.

Well if Tonda gets the boot, a new manager comes in, Tonda's rules for the goalies dont count anymore, so who knows what will happen?

Long a non-playing just training goalie, Peretz No.2 and Ramsdale in goal - I mean it is Saints so as mental and daft as I sound the more likely it will be.....

If we do end up with a new manager, in whatever circumstances, he will almost certainly be briefed that Ramsdale is unavailable and that we’re actively pursuing options to offload him in January. This isn’t ’Tonda rules’ it’s a financial necessity.

A situation that just needs a good deal for AR to go to another club. I guess Saints want to recover costs but may need to make a big loss. £15m or less, even £10m he's not playing so its like buying a car with no MOT a risk.

£5m will do. He’ll have one year left next summer and nobody is willing to pay more. Get him off the books.

Thankfully under Burnham we are moving into more compassionate times.

It's utterly bizarre that people still think Ramsdale is being left out for sporting reasons.

what would be your understanding on this then?

We are trying to get him off the wage bill. It's nothing to do with a judgement call that he is not worthy of a place on the bench because the club think Peretz and Long are better. It has never been about that.

Eckert has already said that verbal agreements are in place for Peretz to be number one and Long to be number two. That would surely have been a big part in Peretz signing in the summer, that he’s the de facto number one and not battling against a guy who has played for England.  So it’s definitely designed to send a message to Peretz that he’s number one, and to Ramsdale that there’s no future for him here so he needs to listen to all offers come January.

I’d also reckon some of it could be financial, a saving of appearance money or bonuses if Ramsdale is not in the matchday squad. Thats my speculation though, certainly I think Tonda’s statement about it is the biggest indicator of the situation.

the Pompey game is a "must-win" for obvious reasons.  If Peretz isn't 100% fit by the 11th, then

logically it's Geo. Long to take his place. If the score goes against us, then the goalie will certainly

"automatically"  be blamed and that won't be a good sign for Long's long term period with the club

.

SO....do you think that Tonda will defy logic and choose to play our most experienced keeper instead?

Rambo is still a Saints player, and if he were to put on a class performance it may help his relationship

with Eckert, even if Long were to feel a bit miffed by such a decision.

YES.... it may sound a bit daft, but this is football and anything can happen before what many fans will

consider to be the most important match this side of the New Year.

Might be worth establishing a few facts:

Ramsdale has never refused to play.

No doubt he wanted to leave and no offers came in.
Equally he was never going to leave for abroad given he’s just had a second child.

He’s well within his right to stick around given he’s on a salary and he signed a contract so can do as he pleases.

Clearly dialogue has happened between them and the understanding is clear that Peretz has been brought into be number one and Long is number two.

But just because Long is number two doesn’t mean he is guaranteed to play. Remember Alex McCarthy coming in from the cold three years ago.
