This means they need to get the right man in. When the pressure is on they make a habit of throwing around money they can't afford. That is the only way they'll get someone. Those that did stay seemed to be long resigned to the fact this is one of the worst sides they have ever seen. Almost total apathy throughout, except for one old man coming close to a heart attack on the half way line due to bury time wasting. Just for a split second I almost felt sorry for them as yet another five yard pass went straight into the crowd. Having to witness your side being led out by a man in dog in drag mascot costume is surely punishment enough, but no, these chumps have to watch another season of Tubbs growing fatter before their very eyes. To be fair the skates huffed and puffed in the second half, no faulting their effort, but of course they created absolutely nothing as the team is full of talentless no marks. Wallace really is their only player, but his final ball still lets him down. Their famous 12th man seems to have been transferred. The new tesco is coming on nicely, and they have left just enough space between it and the beany baby stand to park a caravan or two. I was, and remain, proud and enthusiastic about that. People are fed up and jaundiced with the prospect of the Newport County and Dagenham types making their way here for a THIRD season in the basement. I understand that, but it was inevitable. We shouldn't use that frustration to rubbish Trust ownership and even to abort our ownership. I want to invoke two metaphors. One: this is a tanker that firstly we have to stop going in one (disastrous) direction, before we turn it round. Secondly, I see our progress as being rather like an old fashioned run chase for a cricket team in a one-day game. In other words: are we up with the rate ? We are AHEAD of the rate off the field with debt repayment two years ahead of schedule and we train again in our own city. We are BEHIND the rate narrowly insofar as I didn't believe we would be any more than mid-table this season [11th] in advance of de-cluttering the playing staff this summer and being able to pay some fees and expand the budget. In the event we have struggled on the field, but the sum total is still the same: we were always facing a third season in this garbage league. We need to carry on growing our club, organically and incrementally; learning the lessons of history. If we do this, with Swansea as a potential role model, then I am very confident we will go back to where our big, dormant and untapped fanbase should have our club. In the top league. We have done the polar opposite of past decades in investing in the academy- we see from Chaplin and Close- that good things are happening. To say nothing of the likes of Joel Ward and Matt Ritchie. Additionally we have invested in a city-based training facility. One lesson has taken a bit longer to learn: the need for an old head to be in the mangerial hotseat. We await Paul Cook or Phil Brown- either of the transparently obvious candidates. Coppell said we have a couple of promotions in us- more in my view, perhaps in his. There are concerns. The rising age of the fanbase needs to be addressed. Giving tickets away to schools and 'kids for a quid' ideas are good. It was good to see younger fans populating the Milton End yesterday. My biggest concern is the ground. I believe next season should be about having the 'relocate or revamp?' conversation with the fans. Trying to shoehorn, sardine-like more fans into a dilapidated ground is plausible but undesirable. What was good for Scumpton and Reading (pond-life Division Three South, passionless clubs lacking real history) needs to be good for us: a state of the art new ground. We need to be bold and forward thinking. I would rather be Pompey than Bolton, Cardiff or Birmingham with their issues. Posters comment on here about the expanded PL parachute riches. Every time they have gone up, the fear has risen, but guess what? The average number of clubs immediately returning still stays at about one club. All that happens is that they can't hold on to any of their best players and pay absurd monies for players. Look at Fulham. The longer the non-returners rot the worse it gets- now increasingly allied to debt-ridden clubs failing FFP. I am very positive about the way the club is going. Progress is being made. Nothing in life that is worth doing or achieving happens without a lot of hard work and time. Sixty years of neglect can't be put right in two years. We can look forward to the following: a summer clearout, a proven managerial appointment, Awford's return to youth development, a summer influx of players, continuing robust finances as fans DO renew season tickets and improvements to Fratton. It's a matter of 'when' not 'if' we get at least a couple of promotions. Soon, we shall be party to a party. There is no silver bullet, no quick panacea, no quick fixes. This club is being rebuilt. It doesn't need Redknapp or Mandaric. It doesn't look apparent to the uninitiated, it doesn't satisfy the impatient. But the trajectory is upwards. If people want this club to be a hostage to fortune then seek a foreigner or some Delboy as owner, perhaps with a retired, big name Carlos Kick-a-ball as manager. We have tried it before." Ah, oops, apologies....I forgot....those legacy debts are nothing to do with the current incarnation of Portsmouth Football Club..... And good to see that the board aren't concealing the value of the sponsorship deal from the club's "owners".... I'm sure I remember someone revealing that the only reason Gob****e stayed as their sponsor this season was because it would actually cost them more to remove their advertising from the roof of the Fratton End than it cost them to sponsor the club again Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
