Doubt anyone on here is surprised and if you are then you'd better get used to it, this won't be the last spanking we get this season. Club is in a malaise.

Just looking at the remaining 2018 fixtures coming up ..... Watford(h) L, Fulham(a) D, Man U(h) L, Spurs(a) L, Cardiff(a) D, Arse(h) L, Udders(a) D, Spam(h) D, Citeh(h) L

I think we'll get 4 points from that lot giving us 11 points from 20 games, deep in the merde.

The team from last season needed a substantial injection of better players. In today's starting 11 =

0 Players had been bought in the summer.

0 Players added from the youth setup.

1 Player (Ings) on a loan arranged on the last day of the Transfers.

This Club has made poor purchases of players and has failed to supply players from the youth setup capable of playing in the Prem.

Hughes had earned his opportunity to manage us from the start of this season, because of the job he had done in keeping us up when nearly everybody thought that we were as good as down already when he took over. Sadly the time has probably arrived when any sensible person will have concluded that the run of results achieved this season, and the circumstances under which they have been achieved, doesn't warrant him being allowed to continue as manager. He had excuses at the end of last season, an unfamiliar team, morale low, not much time to change things around, and he did manage to ensure our survival against all the odds.

However, he has had a full Summer to buy in players and a full pre-season to get them bedded in and to assess their strengths and weaknesses, their best playing positions and character traits. And yet here we are 11 matches into the season having only one win and a tally of just 7 points. We cannot wait as late as we did last season in getting rid of the last clown; we need to do it much earlier this season, or we won't get away with it again.

A loss against free scoring City is no disgrace, and they are already opening up a gap at the top of the table with their goal difference. But it isn't as if we have been playing many of the top six clubs, and should have been capable of winning several of the matches, had we been good enough. Even the clown and Puel managed to prevent City from getting all three points until the last minute of injury time, (or even beyond it). Hughes' team and the useless Hoedt managed to give them the lead in a matter of minutes and we were already being humiliated by half time.

Adkins's newly promoted team gave them a real game, Pochettino's team always looked capable of winning against anybody on their day, as did Koeman's. Puel's teams were boring, but generally well set-up. Pellegrino's were even more boring and mostly set-up not to lose rather than to win. Hughes' team is lacking any bite up top and weak in defence. It is hard to apportion the blame for our decline correctly. Undoubtedly much needs to go onto Reeds shoulders, as the wheels have fallen off his master plan for finding previously undiscovered stars, who will lift the team for a season or two, be sold for mega-bucks and then be replaced with another in the same mould. We have sold fantastic players these last two or three years and replaced them with costly dross, some not even deemed good enough to start matches. But much of the blame must surely be laid on Hughes' shoulders. Not only does he not know his best team, but he often doesn't even play the strongest team tactically to gain the best chance of points against the different opposition we face match by match. Neither does the team appear to be fully fit, or motivated, lacking confidence, which shows in the inability of our strikers to score goals and this is making us a commentators' joke.

Has anybody found out why Romeu wasn't playing today? If we were to stand a chance against City, we needed 5 at the back, and all three of Hobjberg, Lemina and Romeu in the midfield. As soon as I saw the team, I wondered why we would risk facing the pace and strength of City with a weak midfield and only four defenders. But really it doesn't matter much who he picks if the strikers can't put the ball in the net. It had looked as if the defence was starting to settle during the past couple of matches, but Hughes' inability to pick a team to deprive City of possession in midfield will have given the defence a massive jolt to their confidence, if they actually had much to begin with.

Frankly as far as football is concerned, I would rather watch Bournemouth at the moment, although somehow we did manage to look better than them the other day.

Utterly bemusing formation-wise, considering that everyone knows about City's wide threat with Silva and Sané.

Cedric, who can have trouble containing one decent attacker, is given two to handle in loads of space. Meanwhile, JWP, who could be out there helping him, is getting in the way of PEH and Lemina in the middle while they're trying to protect the back four.

But the far bigger problem isn't the stuff on the pitch or the touchline, as bad as it is. There are few sides even on City's planet, never mind at our end of the table.

The owners and Ralph know SFA about football, so Reed has them completely by the nuts. Even if they knew that he was the problem, they'd have no idea what to do about it. They need to start meeting with some football people who can tell them what everyone else knows because it's been clearly apparent for two or three years.

If you have to keep changing managers, and keep seeing expensive signings sitting on the bench, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it's time to look one level up from the manager.

That fourth paragraph is the main worry, in a nutshell.

We're in some sort of grim stasis because Gao is just a statue.

Meh I can't even find the energy to get upset about it to much now. Used to be a result like this would have me in a bad mood for days but after the last two seasons I've got so used to us being ****e I just sigh, shrug my shoulders and just move on..

Yeah and the really sad thing is you try not to care because there's only so much disappointment and frustration that you can take. The real danger is that you start to question why you bother ..... once you lose that unquestioning faith and passion then it is very difficult to reignite. This has been going on for over 2 seasons, and some really good supporters have fallen away and there are plenty more on the brink. The club has to show some balls to get rid of Hughes etc and take a chance with an ambitious hungry young manager. Many on here laughed at the suggestion we should go with Graham Potter but at least he would have been a change , a breathe of fresh air , and surely couldn't have done any worse that the current management / coaching regime.

He speaks highly of you.

OK, so you would rather have lightweights in midfield instead who are easy to dispossess. Fair enough.

My memory may be playing tricks on me but I seem to remember that he was one of the forum favourites last season....

Question is though, how has he fallen so far over the last two seasons under MP and Hughes ? Speaks volumes for the coaching.

Yeah, I can't say I care much. It's just par for the course now.

Won't be long before sponsors start to walk, then something will change.

On a brighter note, maybe this type of one-sided game will prove to be a catalyst for splitting the PL into PL1 & PL2 of 12 or 16 teams.

Isn’t that then just the premier league and championship under different names? [emoji848]

Is there one person surprised? We are rubbish they are very good.

I’m surprised we scored?!

Otherwise the result was exactly what I expected, said to my dad this morning it’ll be 5 or 6.

They put 5 past Burnley, 5 past Cardif, 6 past Huddersfield now 6 past us, shows exactly what our level is.

This won’t be the worse result of the season, Man City are exceptional! Doesn’t make up for how crap we are but I expected to lose heavily all the same.

Next weekend will be a far worse result if we don’t get 3 points, homes games against clubs outside the top 6 are all must win as far as I’m concerned!

You never hear from Alpine anymore.

I still look in occasionally, but theres not much point in posting any more to be honest. Its not as if anyone is interested in what I write.

This club and this site is a busted flush. We are so going down. The manager is now irrelevant to this process. Totally. 3 we've tried, and the results are just getting worse as we make more and more p*ss poor on-the-cheap recruitment decisions.

Unless there is a root-and-branch change at the club, we are totally b*ggered.

He's not playing in the role that he specialises in. Under Puel he played at the base of the diamond with 2 central midfielders in front of him and shielded the defence.

Subsequently he's had to play as one of a midfield pair, one way or another. His instructions seem to be to rotate attacking and defensive duties with his partner. The problem is he's not got the recovery pace to get back if he pushes forward.

I think he's a really good specialist midfield anchor but a pretty poor central midfielder.

Easy to hide behind the fact City are the best team in the league, but 3 goals in 12 minutes is unacceptable.

we stayed up by the skin of our teeth and then spent our transfer budget on Gunn, Vestergaard, Armstrong, elyounoussi and Ings. Only one of those is a starting 11 improvement, the rest are all subs. We needed to improve what was on the pitch not the bench.

Also, some less talented sides get by on hard work and determination, that’s not been seen for a few years with us. I

A nine hour round trip to see your team beat 6-1 is pretty tough. Only consolation is a good stadium to visit and a truly outstanding team on view.

First the positives ...and bizarrely there were some, and that is in the second half we genuinely created some chances and played at times some good attacking stuff. We stretched them at times with pace and if we had more clinical finishing would have scored three goals which should always be enough to win a game. In that sense 6-1 is cruel.

However, the first 15 mins was as unacceptable as Wet Spam or Newcastle away last year. Awful body language, inability to get a challenge in and I feared after 3-0 down it could become an absolute rugby score. Hate to dig individuals out but our international full backs aren’t delivering I am afraid. No competition for places with Credric but I would drop one of my favourite players of recent years and that is Bertrand. His commitment in that awaful opening period was a disgrace.

I would not pull the trigger on Hughes just yet, would like to see where we are at halfway stage with eight more games needing us to have 13 more points. That looks a tough ask right now though

Not defeat but manner of the defeat. I wanted Hughes to stay at the end of last season, thought he’d earned that to be honest, but we now look lacklustre and bereft of ideas to a man; lacking in fitness and careless. Hate to say it but to have a decent chance to stay up we may need yet another change ASAP. In any sane universe Reed and wee Ross just have been long gone by now, plus Krueger in all honesty - three professional chancers stealing a living. The lack of direction from Gao at the very top is worrying and seems to be a principal cause of the malaise, either lost in translation or couldn’t care less - who knows? Question in who could you bring in to galvanise this lot, a decent CEO for Krueger would be easy, give Mitchell Reed and Wilson’s joint salary to come in as Head of Football ops and recruitment would seem sensible, but who as the manager at this point, goodness knows!

Nicola Cortese, and just give him a free hand.
