Spurs 2-1 Saints - Game thread

Probably not the line up most of us would have gone for, but I'm just glad to see something has changed.

Salisu LB or are we doing 3-5-2? That would leave Armstrong or Tella playing LWB... though Ralph will claim afterwards they were playing as a 10 all along!

Feel very sorry for Jankewitz if this is 4-2-2-2 and he's on the bench again.

Minamino whilst not the best, has scored a couple and is looking to impress so let’s put him on the bench.

Forster (and I’m not his biggest fan) has done very little wrong so he’s on the bench.

Armstrong, our best attacking option, appears to have been moved to central midfield.

At least it’s something different but fuckin hell Ralph !!

Wow, just wow!

Hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

Assume Salisu at LB unless he is going 3 at the back.  They should waltz through the middle of the park - Armstrong is an attacking midfielder not a holding midfielder.

Do not understand the recall for Macarthy at all.....Forster has actually done nothing wrong.

Hard to say at this stage, based on names.

Could it be 3-5-2?

                       Macca

       Bednarek   Vesta    Salisu

               KWP     JWP

Walcott      Armstrong         Tella

            Ings   Adams

Nah, too radical for Ralph. Salisu at LB in a the usual 4-2-2-2, I would expect.

Bertrand is injured according to Tom Leach. I dunno why Fraser is on the bench, he's done nothing wrong in my opinion. Jankewitz I would have started along with Minamino. Glad Che is back in along with Tella. In Ralph we trust :) COYR

Me too. But I don't trust Ralph. :( I'm hoping we have enough points to survive because we won't be getting any tonight.

Bizarre rather than radical. Where exactly is Walker-Peters playing in that formation? Who is in central midfield?

That's for to be three at the back with Tella and KWP as wing backs surely.

Armstrong and JWP in cm. Walcott as a 10 and Adams and Ings up front.

That’s what I assumed seeing the line up. Give us some cover so KWP can attack without leaving a huge gap. We can also go to a bank of 4 or 5 when out of possession.

would allow the front 3 to rotate somewhat as well.

be interesting to see...

Same thinking here.. looks like 3 at the back, we need to keep up with Bale and Son so kind of makes sense with two WBs

We need to find a solution to our midfield and maybe JWP as the anchor with Theo and Stu as more attacking makes sense (although I'd like to have seen the young Swiss lad)

What on earth. Dropping Fraser?

Dropping Fraser is just ludicrous. Agree - start Jankevitz. At least no Redmond. Good to see Tella and Adams in

I'd assume one or two of Fraser, McC and Gunn need to be sold this summer... Maybe a last chance saloon for our current n1 to see if he can displace FF?

Seriously losing faith.

FF should be in goal, done little wrong.

It would not surprise me to see Spurs win, and it pains me.

Up to now I've had full faith with RH but slowly seeing lack of tactical idea. Lucky to beat Burnley. Too slow to make changes against WBA. Now drops FF for keeper who is poor at distribution.

Complete unknown how Spurs will react to Mourinho being sacked and Kane being injured, in theory a good time to play them.

Never a good time to play anybody with our lightweight wilting pansies who crumble all too easily.

Hoping for a change in heart from them but not really expecting it.

I think if Liverpool have said (behind closed doors this is), that Minamino will definitely return to Liverpool, then no point playing him and let’s give someone else the game time.

Although might be silly because if Minamino plays well and scores- he could give us valuable prize money! But Ralph obviously seeing different.

I will assume this is the same case with Jankewitz. If Ralph doesn’t have him in his plans for next season, then no point playing him.

However, the alternative viewpoint albeit unlikely is to give Jankewitz some minutes to put him in the stop window- but something must have happened behind closed doors as Ralph might well have just frozen him out.

Honestly think Ralph has lost his mind

Not like you to make an over the top and exaggerated comment.

FWIW I'm not particularly confident tonight but people have been calling for change, complaining about Bertrand, Diallo, Redmond etc.,  and when we get a change, whether tactical or personnel it's never acceptable and everybody has their own idea of what should be done.

When we do a high press (as with Spurs at home) there are complaints, when we take a conservative approach as in the first half in the semi likewise. We do seem to have difficulty changing gear and upping the tempo.

Oh well.. off to find a stream and finish my second G&T..

Drinking game rules for tonight - shots shots shots!

  • Commentator mentions "9-0"
  • Bednarek making a suicide run out to the wing to intercept a winger and completely missing the ball
  • Someone calling James Ward Prowse a "dead ball specialist"
  • Diallo giving the ball away in midfield when all he had to do was pass it 4 yards
  • Walcott being Walcott and losing the ball to no one
  • Che Adams firing the ball at a billion miles an hour into a defender's shins from 5 yards.

That’s the Adams’ one ticked off in a minute

Fucking Adams. All the finesse of a breeze block. Every finish with him is hit-it-as-hard-as-you-can straight at the keeper or whatever defender is in front of him.

Sadly so. Either side of the keeper, it's a goal.

In other news, looks like Ralph has finally told them any passback is a £50 fine!

Outstanding goalkeeping Lloris! Great ball from Tella.

It wasn’t.

First one, good height for him. Should have been headed downwards and wider of him (but it was a defender, so understandable), the second, I’d have saved seeing as it just got blasted straight at him. Terrible finishing.

Just cushion it in, you're 4 yards out, ne need to blast it.

You are right but Adams when he has time to think tends to fluff his lines.

He is good at his instinctive best- this one he should have buried for sure tho

I think some of you are being extremely harsh on Adams, not like he had a lot of time to think about it. 9 times out of 10 that goes in.

I like him as a player, what he brings etc. But weren't we saying that about the late chance vs Burnley and many of his other chances that 9 out of 10 would go in?
