In line with what I’d heard although relatively low fee reflective of the wages Archer is on. Club clearly decided it’s better to dump those with the introduction of SCR.

Yes.  Absolutely.  It's the only sensible course of action to take.  Especially given the FA's lack of promptness which could mean the position isn't clear until after the January window closes.  Good plan though.

Dobbin looks a swap for Archer so would be not at all surprised to see Archer go back to the Midlands.

And different websites say different numbers, but most seem to say Cameron Archer is one of the higher paid players in the squad at around £2m per year so that can come off our books too.

Read somewhere else THB was on £500k per year. Something we need to sort if we want to keep him but opinion on here seems to suggest he will be off this summer.

Will be interesting to see who makes the plane today although given it's only a couple of hours away maybe it won't prevent anyone from being sold. It may show our intentions though if we leave anyone behind (Ramsdale, bbd, Archer? Charles?)

To be honest I just don’t get all the overblown fascination with player salaries. Every single pro player around the World earns considerably more than most people can dream of ever earning, relative to the country they play in. It’s a short-term career with significant long-term injury risk. My advice is get over it and concentrate on the value the player brings to the team - much more important IMHO.

When you start thinking about value, it’s clear that it’s the collective value that is so important. For example, I would argue that the value of THB to the team right now under Eckhert is high - in fact, try to think of players that don’t fit that mould. Probably fringe players like Ramsdale, Archer, Roerslav, Larios, Sanda etc. would not affect the collective spirit of the 1st team if they left.

No rumours or anything since Werder didn’t take up their buy option as expected. Late loan near the end of the window, perhaps with a fairly low obligation to buy I expect.

These footballers and their agents make me laugh outside of the very elite levels. Look at Joe Aribo, his agent convinced him last summer that Saudi clubs wanted him and how much money they were going to earn. Tumbleweed, he didn’t have a proper pre-season, size of a house when he did appear, and didn’t pull up any trees at relegated Leicester. Free agent, no rumours but his agent probably still dreaming away and blowing smoke up his arse. At least Saints got one of their biggest earners off the books, 12 months later than they wanted but Leicester helped out with the loan from January,

These wages received by Saints players are similar on different websites which suggests they're either from one source and other sites copy or maybe there's some truth in them. It could also be that THB's agent is particularly smart and THB receives other benefits in kind in addition to cash in the bank.

And Gloucester Saint, you're so right about these sodding agents. Admittedly a few years ago now, but at my local club Woking, players on £20k pa would come in with their agent to negotiate their new pays deals. You can just imagine the agent promising all kinds of stuff while taking their 10% cut which the players could hardly afford.

Robinson's with the squad in Germany. Sesay, yeah no idea what happened there. Thought he was going to be our midfield cover going into last season, but just completely disappeared after pre-season.

Robinson really doesn't seem to have benefited from Tonda - I really thought he was going to kick on last year and become a very important player for us. Obviously the injury didn't help, but maybe he doesn't fit into Tonda's system?

Just a little bit of comparison from the past.
Just after the end of WW2 Saints nearly got promoted twice from the old Second Division to the First Division.
The older supporters (or more likely their fathers) will remember one season (1948/9?) when Saints were 8 points clear at the top at Easter (when there were only 2 points for a win) and they fell away after star striker ,Charlie Wayman, was injured in the 1-0 win at White Hart Lane in front of over 70,000 supporters.
The Saints Board announced a profit of £20,000 for that season!!
Mind you when I first started going to The Dell, the cost to get in was 1/-, equivalent of 5p in todays money.
Johnny Haynes of Fulham was the first £100 a week player in the 1960's.
Most players had to get a part time job outside the season as they were either on nil or restricted wages.

Pre-season showed to me at least that he wasn't ready for first team football. Still and Tonda obviously thought the same.

Sesay played a lot at left back last season.
