Little bit more of him here. Quick feet and good poachers instinct. Typical City striker really. Don't think we'll get much of the Stewart finishes out of nothing but should enjoy playing with Azaz, Scienza and Fellows I would suggest.

Yeah not much interest from the sound of it, was hoping Newcastle would at least give us £20M and we could move on but they chose to buy elsewhere.

Accounting wise think he's valued at £10M on our books having completed 2 years of a 4 year contract, need to cover at least that and get wages off

Didn’t really know much about here until I watch these match highlights which was played recently.

He’s always looking for opportunities in the box and he suits our style for sure.

Not sure what he’s like beating the offside track like we scored on Saturday but he’s certainly a poacher like Larin.

Excited with this one. 👏

The one thing that's needed at this level is a proven goalscorer. It's part of the reason that Wolves signed Adam Armstrong. They knew they were going down so planned for life in The Championship by signing someone who was proven at this level.
Why is it that Saints always have to do things the 'unproven' way? Yes, he might be superb, but he might also be absolutely dire. It's a massive gamble. Personally, I'd rather we went and got someone with a proven record at this level.
Surely, the likes of Piroe (who can't have a future at Leeds) would be a safer bet?

A comment from a stoke fan said 'prepare for him to be offside multiple times a game.' Maybe a year older though he will have improved that aspect.

Isn't Larin a proven goalscorer at this level? I don't really disagree by the way.

You'd hope, but also a comment about him looking a different player when he goes to another club. I think Stoke, as a club just seems to have a habit of bringing out the negative aspects of a player..

I remember watching a couple of Stoke games and thinking HCDAJFU.

Gamble worth taking imo. If we can bin off BBD and find a good home for archer, maybe the plan is this guy on loan + a new perm signing?

Hmm. This signing seems another sign of saints trying to be too clever and do things on the cheap.... Time will tell...

I see Arthur Dennis' reported move to Coventry has fallen through. Would make a decent Shea replacement and you'd think a deal wouldn't be hard to do with Goztepe. It'd be nice to get some benefit from this multi club nonsense.

Is Adam just saying here we are taking a gamble not going down the proven route or that there might be two 9s incoming?

I'm hoping the latter, I like the look of Mubama but as people have said, if Larin were to get injured, we'd be very light so hopefully we can bring in another more proven 9 too. Time will tell.

Did we not just sign Larin who is proven at this level and we know he fits in with our style / players ?

Not sure City and Mubama will be too chuffed if we start looking to bump him down to 3rd choice tbh. And the whole ‘proven’ thing is very dull. Won’t find many more ‘Proven’ than Archer and Diaz for example.

Yep, I think Stewart leaving to go to Swansea shows it's very difficult to keep two proven strikers happy at this level when only one can start. We've never been one of the sides that's had a young striker come in on loan and score a crazy amount of goals, hopefully that changes this season, but Larin is our main man.

TBH i am pretty chilled. Keep Larin fit and we've got a top goalscorer contender. His off the ball movement is superb for this level (he makes great runs constantly, and is always asking for the ball to be played through - unlike BBD etc), and he's got the likes of Scienza, Azaz, manning, and Fellows putting in a variety of high quality balls for him to attack. He's perhaps unusual in that he's not the big physical "target man" who will necessarily hold the ball up reliably (i thought he struggled last year against physical defenders), but he's mobile, physical enough, and a real "fox in the box" type - to be a real nightmare for defenses to deal with - his goal against Colchester personifies that.. His movement is good, he attacks balls superbly, and once he's on his way thats a lot of pace and power to try and defend against, especially if he catches the defenders flat footed or half a yard of it. Given the service he'll get in saints, he's a very potent focal point for the side. And his movement and physicality will at the very least occupy defenders and create space for the rest of the attackers.

Stewart is a loss as he was more the classic target man, he would hold up the ball brilliantly and link play, and he'd get goals seemingly out of nowhere due to his added physicality - its a shame as i thought the two of them dovetailed nicely, and both of them were a goal threat. It will be interesting to see how the new guy fits - I'm expecting him to be more like Larin than Stewart. I do think we're short one more striker however, asking Larin to play some part in every game of a circa 50+ game season is a lot of eggs in one basket.

Don't like the sound of  "verbal agreement but ..."  if we have a verbal agreement then surely their internal discussions should have already happened.  Wonder if he doesn't want to come ? Or manager wants him as emergency cover, given he's had a good pre-season?

Hopefully, an older head such as Larin can teach him this side of the game.

Can Piroe lead a line on his own? I got the feeling that he wasn't really a good target man, so wouldn't fit our needs perfectly.

I am not averse to us signing young players, who will all pretty much be 'unproven' at this level, and suggested we might want to look at trying again with a younger type for CM and CF positions. From a squad point of view, its good to have a mix of ages and we have the experienced pro already in Larin. That said, it sounds like it might just be a loan not a loan with a transfer added to it, so if it s a short term deal, then his age matters little.

He looks like he is a big lad that likes to get in the six yard box. I'd be interested to know what he's like in terms of hold up play and winning flick ons etc.

Should BBD and Archer depart, is there any chance that we sign two new strikers?

If Archer goes (as well as BBD) my faith in TE and JS will increase because he is ok but just not good enough for us.

Leo, Larin, Dobbin, Mubama, Azaz, A.N.Other NEW ST, is a fresh looking bunch of forwards and quite exciting (potentially/possibly!!).

The reporting terminology is 'strange'. Either City has approved the loan or not.

I'm surprised Derby haven't bought BBD by now. He seemed to do a job for them last season, but perhaps they are biding their time to see if they can squeeze us on the fee or maybe another loan with some wages covered. It makes sense that Tonda gave him a chance pre-season, and ensures we give the impression he might not be totally surplus to requirements.

Archer completely lost his confidence last season. The goals at the end of the season showed that he has talent, but he just doesn't fit our system and like all players, he needs to be playing every week otherwise that confidence will disappear again. WBA funds are limited, so it might be tricky for a deal to done there. Jimmy Jay Morgan scored a couple at the weekend, so they are not 'desperate' for a striker.

Assuming we bring in some form of Larin-esq target man, such as Mubama, I would think the answer is no. Those two will essentially be competing for one place in the team, with Leo, Dobbin, Azaz, Fellows, Matsuki, Edozie and Oyekunle all competing to play in the three behind. That’s assuming DD leaves too.

Mubama was very highly rated at West Ham and they were gutted when he left, my Hammers mate said perhaps he looked so good at youth level as was so physically developed but highly rated young player who has played for England at lots of age groups, he could learn a bit from more experienced Larin

Che Adams???

Would be ok, better than BBD obviously and Archer. Mubama is faster, with good physique and height. Larin Mubama and Adams might just be a brilliant trio of outright strikers in this league.

In the PL Adams and Larin will be far less effective, Mubama is clearly unknown at this point but you never know, might be excellent.

Id rather someone else other than Adams (with one eye on PL next season🤞) but if he and Mubama do turn up I think that would be pretty decent.

He hasn't featured much on this thread recently. Are we all trying to forget he's signed to us? Any signs in pre-season that he's improved? (He obviously couldn't do worse..)
