Why all the lack of info surrounding Ross Stewart? Last update I saw was months ago.

Not sure what else we need to know. The last update was that he's out for the season, so there's nothing more to really update on tbh.

Last update was "probably" won't see him again this season, but suggested he might be ready for last 3 or 4 weeks, but that we probably wouldn't risk him unless it is desparate, rather give him a full pre-season. So we're not too far off last 3 or 4 weeks so would be of some interest to know if he is progressing.

They didn't say that. They also haven't explained what injury he has which has kept him out for so long.

Widely reported as a hamstring injury.

Russell Martin also commented on him pretty recently:

Assuming he has a muscle tear, how many hamstring injuries take 4 months plus to heal?

That report was 2 months ago, in it Martin says he will be off his crutches pretty soon, I would think 'pretty soon' would be less than 2 months, so unless there has been a setback (possible) he probably should be back in light training pretty soon if not already.

The Bazunu (and now) Armstrong injuries are just about the worse news we could expect, and it's not certain that Downes is fully fit yet either.

We can't point to the bench and think we have " suitable replacements " for all our best players, but I'm wondering if the grueling training programme

that players seem to go through can be a major  cause.  Of course we need players who can run for 90+ minutes ( ala Prowsey) but clearly the stress

on bodies - especially of younger players - seems to be a major factor that causes serious injury.

Looking back over the last two seasons the injury tally points to the fact that we cannot / should not rely on young talents to get us through a season.

Broja ...... had a first good half season, but soon the tackles took their tally and after New Year he was only a passenger up front.  (Later ACL when back at Chelsea).

ABK, Lavia and Livramento all succumbed to injuries that made them ineffective - even when they did play, and Larios has hardly played any minutes in two seasons.'

Of course everyone can pick up injuries, and we are still awaiting the arrival of Ross Stewart as a meaningful squad member, but the truth of the matter is that

not everyone has a constitution capable of playing " full time " football, and this hampers teams where the managers can only expects 60 minutes of effective play.

It needs tough bodies to withstand a season of top class games and talented kids moving up from U18 / U23 level will understandably struggle at the higher level.

Those clubs amongst the 80-odd in the League who don't have billionaire owners have an ongoing problem every year in finding players fit enough to DAJF them ,

let alone succeed at whatever level they are playing.

This is a problem with the 'we breed success' philosophy.  Especially in the Championship with all the extra games.

Any idea how Larios and Ballard are getting on?

Have the club ever divulged what Larios' injury is? Hasn't he now been out longer than players typically are with career threatening injuries such as ACLs, leg breaks, etc?

What injury does he have and why is it taking so long to recover from...?

Larios is back in full training as far as I know, I notice him on the training galleries from time to time. Martin said they won't rush him back this season, but he'll come back in pre-season and be able to start on a level footing with the rest of the squad.

Not sure we'll see Ballard this side of the summer, probably one for the autumn? it was a pretty bad ACL.

I think he had an ankle injury and then on his comeback from that, tore his hamstring? (or the other way round). I think he's had two bad injuries back to back which has prolonged his recovery.

Hopefully he's not injury prone, but his build is so slight that it looks like he could be snapped in half by a burly Champ CM!

Imagine a line up next season that includes Adam Armstrong, Larios, and Ryan Fraser.  Set piece carnage alert.

Hi ho hi ho it’s off to work we go.
