We aren't a Spors team.

One overwhelmingly obvious point of his recruitment is that we WILL be.
Spors will favour athleticism, height, power and pace as the default requirement of SFC players. Whoever is new manager not only MUST comply but ideally is already a believer.

It comes down to whether anyone makes a sensible offer. "Ditching" isn't an option.

I expect someone will make a reasonable enough bid for Jan and we'll keep Stephens for "character" and versatility.

I don't profess to be an expert on contracts and how they work unlike some of the chaps on here but if a manager at the beginning of the season took them both to the side and told there's no future for them at saints, I'm pretty sure they'd both want to play football at this stage of their careers rather than being part of the reserves. I suppose you can never really tell but I think that sort of approach might make them feel like leaving.

Not really sure who you think we would be selling him to. QPR won't be able to afford him. Selling him to a Championship title rival would seem pretty insane and I'm not sure anyone would stump up the fee we'd want for a player on a long contract.

Thought I’d have a look at the QPR V Burnley game to see how Edwards is getting on. Half time and QPR are 3 nil down but Edwards has done ok. He might have reacted quicker for the second goal but it wasn’t his man to pick up. Seems to have decent awareness and anticipation and cleared off the line on one occasion.  Shown enough to indicate he’s relatively press resistant and comfortable in possession but hasn’t been adventurous in his passing or stepped into midfield.

edit: subbed on 79 minutes. QPR went to 3 at the back and it didn’t suit Edwards as well, showed a lack of mobility a bit and picked up a yellow card

How do you know what Spors will favour?

So, a lack of height, a lack of mobility, and not very good at defending.

Sounds perfect for us.

That’s good news per se, but it will require almost the entire current squad to be sold , as none of our current players have any of those attributes

Ah, who needs athleticism, height, power and pace, when you have....um...what is it we have, again? 🙂

Because Spors said it himself in his only interview since joining Saints?

"A very intense style of football is something that fits here. This leads to my scouting processes. I think players need to be physically strong. They need to be fast. They need to have some aggressiveness in their mentality. If you just give these headlines to a scouting department there is already a clear profile. Then we will go into much more detail with our data analytics and traditional scouting."

Cos he's a massive cunt. I'm just asking why? Do you admire him? Is it a windup? Just interested in the human psyche.

Whenever I see his name I think of the “great train robbers”. An amalgam of Ronnie Biggs and Buster Edwards.

Don’t know why a felt the need to get that off my chest.

His name does seem a bit evocative of the 1960's.

He has been named for the under 21s Euros tournament this summer.

Good luck and don’t get injured, this season will be a big one for you. Go on and lift the trophy so we can boast about having two youth Euro winners.

Am looking forward to seeing him play for us next season. Ideally alongside an older head and experienced CB.

Fear not my son.

Big Daddy Jack and his "boy" Ronnie will be guiding us to a New Dawn...

I'd rather they went for quality in his partner, not experience. Ronnie Edwards isn't a novice. He has played 172 professional games, including 143 league games. 56 games of which were in the Championship or higher.

When I see Leeds played with Ampadu & Roden most of last season it shows the gulf in class. Both I think are very average yet they did the job, i think conceding half of what we did when we got promoted the year before.

Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather have both...
