I don't profess to be an expert on contracts and how they work unlike some of the chaps on here but if a manager at the beginning of the season took them both to the side and told there's no future for them at saints, I'm pretty sure they'd both want to play football at this stage of their careers rather than being part of the reserves. I suppose you can never really tell but I think that sort of approach might make them feel like leaving.

Not really sure who you think we would be selling him to. QPR won't be able to afford him. Selling him to a Championship title rival would seem pretty insane and I'm not sure anyone would stump up the fee we'd want for a player on a long contract.

Thought I’d have a look at the QPR V Burnley game to see how Edwards is getting on. Half time and QPR are 3 nil down but Edwards has done ok. He might have reacted quicker for the second goal but it wasn’t his man to pick up. Seems to have decent awareness and anticipation and cleared off the line on one occasion.  Shown enough to indicate he’s relatively press resistant and comfortable in possession but hasn’t been adventurous in his passing or stepped into midfield.

edit: subbed on 79 minutes. QPR went to 3 at the back and it didn’t suit Edwards as well, showed a lack of mobility a bit and picked up a yellow card

That’s good news per se, but it will require almost the entire current squad to be sold , as none of our current players have any of those attributes

I'd rather they went for quality in his partner, not experience. Ronnie Edwards isn't a novice. He has played 172 professional games, including 143 league games. 56 games of which were in the Championship or higher.

Livramento has been stand out and has played some of the tournament at left back. With England's problems in that position and with Newcastle often playing him at left back, he's virtually a no brainer to go to the WC.

I was very impressed by most of those players. Anderson and Scott, as others have said, looked like a very good pair.

McAtee is class.

All the defenders looked very assured.

I was astounded that the club were prepared to let him go for £5m. A young player with such promise, ok at present he has not settled in with us. QPR only offering 3.5m was also a surprise, a star player for them last season as well

Have to be honest, I don't see how he gets into the team now.  THB, Stephens and Wood all ahead of him and probably Quarshie too.  Small sample size but he looks slow(ish) and too passive in his defending.

The team always seems to be built around Stephens and he is not a good foundation for anything.

Stephens ain't great either but he's been better than Edwards.

I agree, he's been a big disappointment. Lots of hype around him but to be frank, he's been awful. Not had a good game for us yet, albeit a small sample size. Hopefully he can turn it around but at the moment he's probably our 5th choice CB. One thing in his favour is that he's versatile.

Like most of us I've only seen a few minutes of him playing for us and yet hd had glowing comments fet a season at QPR. Something must be different.

And QPR also sometimes played him as a defensive midfielder. Maybe he got more chance of getting in to the team in that role if there are injuries or Downes continues getting ill and Shea Charles builds up his yellow card tally.

He looks like he can play defensive midfield. But he won’t get the chance now we have back up. That’s what squad depth is for. But if he does not play by jan expect he will be sold or loaned.

Ronnie came to us with the potential to become a regular first choice but so far it hasn't happened. He is still young and hopefully will develop although may not get much first team action this season. To take the extra step he will probably need to toughen up because, at times in our first game, he did get bullied by Keiffer Moore. Also he'll need to improve his ability to compete and win aerial duels but is not tall for a centre back. Currently, among his strengths, seem to be reading the game, passing and bringing the ball out of defence. Maybe another loan would have been the best thing for him unless Will thinks he can work with him and improve his deficiencies.

play Edwards 5 games in a row then you will not understand how he wasn’t starting last season.

You must be a very good team in second tier for him not to be in your team - ask a QPR fan

Not the tallest, not the most aggressive, not the quickest, etc. but simply very good and would greatly improve your team.
