And one question jumps to my mind, why come here? Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be very happy if one or even both join us, but looking at where they are now and their ages it doesn’t make sense to me. Falchener will be playing Champions League this season and Affengruber plays in the Primera Division. Why would you go to the Championship? If we do sign them I think we can conclude that our best signing in the last few years has been Johannes Spors. The players he has signed have mostly been quality. Peretz, Jander, Larin, Scienza, Azaz and it seems like Schlott isn’t to bad either. Isn't it obvious? Our vast European spy network has a new directive: unearth the darkest secrets of our transfer targets and build leverage dossiers to ensure compliance. Edited August 30 by Disco Stu

SNSUN Posted August 30 Posted August 30 47 hours to go people! We need a back up GK. Long as second choice will be a huge balls up if Peretz gets injured or suspended. One of the linked CBs in to replace THB. A striker/attacking player to pad out the front line. Then replace the exits. Exciting couple of days. 1
Cuddles Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Quite a number of last minute deals to go through Tuesday night I reckon...certainly plenty of players to move on yet. Who doesn't like a Tuesday night deal?

If Ramsdale is the replacement, we're fine. If Peretz stays fit and Ramsdale sits on the bench (or at home) we're fine. In an ideal world we get Ramsdale off the wage bill and bring in a roughly Peretz-level backup, but how much would one cost? Possibly more than Peretz, knowing they're not coming in to be #1 and so aren't putting themselves in the shop window. Outside of the ideal world I'm happy with the expensive insurance policy of an elite backup over fiddling about to maybe save a couple of mil and maybe have a decent chance of promotion in the worst case scenario. 16 hours ago, Turkish said: I’ve no idea when any of them close. https://www.transfermarkt.com/statistik/transferfenster 2

That’s £ that could well be put to use on bringing in a player that will actually make a regular contribution.

EBS1980 Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Frustrating with the window closing on a game night. hopefully we can get the main deals done today. imagine getting a backup keeper in is being hampered because Ramsdale is still here, wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t pick up a free transfer keeepr crafter deadline if we don’t shift Ramsdale until after the UK window closes.

Lorry_Mack Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Don't know much about either of the CB's we are currently looking at, is either of them considered to be much better than the other?
Willo of Whiteley Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Four concerns for me still, and knowing full well we won't be making four signings: - A GK, imagine Peretz getting injured - Long being the answer seems too much! - A defender to replace Harwood-Bellis. Not Schlotterbeck, clearly he is here to play ahead of Stephens. - A midfield unit in midfield. Jander, Bragg, Downes and Ward-Prowse is a very good midfield four but feel we need one more for depth and with muscle. - A striker to challenge Larin in a similar mould. Is Mubama the answer? Again, not sure yet.

Bearing in mind that "the difference in valuation is too large" is almost word for word what was being reported about Villa and THB, I would think/hope this is all just part of the negotiation and we are still confident of getting it done. There's surely no way we would have loaned out JQ if we weren't 99% certain of securing a deal for our top target to replace THB. But if we really have given up on this guy then I hope we do have a realistic alternative lined up. Going into the season with Stephens and Wood as two of our only three options at CB would be negligence in the extreme. Edited August 31 by Sheaf Saint 3

Again, not sure yet. Out of all those, the goalkeeper situation is perhaps the biggest concern for me... Assuming Ramsdale doesn't stay, as you say, that leaves us with a keeper that was Norwich's No.3 not too long ago, and much derided by their fans to boot (echos of our opinion of Bazunu...) Has he suddenly gone from that status to becoming a reliable No.2 in such a short space of time...? I'm usually happy to give players the benefit of the doubt when they're not rated by fans of the club we're signing them from, but I'm struggling with this one... The bottom line is, if Ramsdale goes then we *have* to bring in a decent No.2, rather than rely upon a previously ridiculed No.3... Edited August 31 by trousers 2

Especially with Peretz and Larin off on international breaks neither will get much of a break this season, feels inevitable there will be some games when not available, more midweek games than ever in championship means a two week injury can quickly turn into missing 4 or 5 matches 2
AlexLaw76 Posted August 31 Posted August 31 We of course need to bring in a keeper. George Long was brought in to put the cones out, right? 6

Not sure they'll go for another GK (although Long for the only back up is scary) Think priority will be a CB and if Archer goes then possibly another forward.
