Arsenal 1 Saints 0 reaction

On the bright side, we've now gone to Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, lost by one goal and deserved a point in all of them. Perhaps at home those games would have swung the other way, who knows.

A bitter pill to swallow but saw it coming after Toby went off. Just hope the queue outside the treatment room isn't too long after this.

Very concerned about our injury situation now. We're a right old mess, pretty much in the space of a week.

Deja vu, last season all over again, said many times that this would be an issue. We need a bigger squad for the December games when it is cold, injuries happen more often, especially hammies and games come thick and fast.

But, fair play to Fraser, played very well tonight, made a string of top class saves. Nothing up front again, we really have lost our way in that department. Defence looked very sound again, at least until last few minutes, never felt too worried while we had 11 players.

Koeman is a. Erly good manager but what a mistake to take Long off and leave 2 wild cards on inMayuka and Mane. Ok great to gamble on a break away, but Long had done really well and we didn't need to roll the dice

Long seemed to be carrying an injury since mid first half. Probably had to stay on longer than was good for him. Hope as a result he is not out for Monday as well.

Exactly what happened last year. With Toby, Morgan & Cork out we are stuffed. Obviously Reed isn't quite tup here yet to get a game against Manure so what can we do?

Yoshisan doesn't look good enough at this level and Fonte is looking increasingly shaky. Not quite meltdown but top four seems remote with this sort of luck. Sh.t!

Top 4 was always pretty remote, to be honest. For mainly this exact reason we're seeing now.

I think some people need to take a step back and recheck their expectations. During the summer and before the first game, most would have said they would be surprised but delighted to finish we we did last year - most predicted worse. We've had a start beyond anyone's wildest dreams which has given us a platform to maybe do 1 or 2 places better than last year, so let's not get away from that fact. We're doing a hell of a lot better than most thought, so there's not much to really moan about in the grand context of it.

Time to either play the youngsters or bring someone in on a FREE otherwise it's just going to be curtains as all the good since the summer will be thrown away.

What does this even mean? We might be down to fifth or sixth, or even seventh? That's 'curtains' is it?

So tempted to cancel my BT Sport subscription tonight.

.

Couldn't have willed Arsenal to win more, a slight facade of impatiality but Owen's Attitude, no Southampton representative in the commentary (McManaman? What's he got to do with us?)

They got the result they wanted.

Will reflect further on this tomorrow.

First minute of injury time wasted with the ref sorting people out for the corner.

Then wastes another 40 seconds with his f*cking spray, then blows the whistle 10 seconds after the free kick. 3 minutes of injury time given and we only played a minute and a half of it.

Didn't deserve to lose.

Nothing to do with Saints supporters chanting "the referee is S H I T" from when Cork was brought down. This chanting really seemed to niggle him. You can't expect favours thereafter. They should have had a go singing OWTS instead.

Mane is alright, just having a right old mare at the moment though.

Mayuka, well, what the hell is that? He's horrendous. If there's only 1 thing we do in January, it's to ship him out and replace him with a better player (which wouldn't be hard)

Got to shift out Mayuka, Osvaldo and Ramires in January and get in at least one PROVEN premier league standard offensive player in.

What youngsters do you suggest we play? Only Reed and Targett have been near the first team, and Targett is not needed because Bertrand is fine. Some people need to wake up and realise that the back up of youth of last season is not there this season. It has been apparent to some since the summer.

This.

Let's stop beating ourselves up about not having a 24 man squad of top quality top 6 superstars.

We haven't, we never will have, ever, get over it.

You could protest really effectively by taking out a second subscription but never using it. That'll show 'em.

What change would you have made then?

1st decision - Reed for Cork.

2nd decision - Gardos for Cork.

Watch what happens before the goal is scored. Giroud is placed on the feet of Yoshida, he's won the last three attempts. Fonte is drawn into sweeping up for Yoshida and is dragged across the penalty area, where Sanchez is the free man. This doesn't happen between him and Toby.

Of course if we had eleven men it may be different but the trust issues between Fonte - Maya- Toby are very apparent when I watch a game.

Forster excellent. Mane in particular was useless, but Pelle, Tadic and to a certain extent Long were ineffective at best. Wanyama had a good game. Felt really sorry for Cork - one of a number of players that received no protection from the Ref against some dirty niggly fouls that Arse seem to get away with. Another result that the pundits will say "Saints were unlucky to lose that", when in reality we looked unlikely to win it due to being so ineffective in the final third. I dread to think what sort of team we'll field against ManUre.

Unlucky tonight but never actually looked like winning it either.

What worries me more Is that's 3 games in a row we've looked incredibly toothless in attacking 3rd with no options on the bench to change it.

How many shots on target in the last 3? 5 or 6 I would imagine.

Talk about seeing what you want to see. There was a mass of players in at the near post yet you single out Yoshida.

Yoshida actually won a great 50/50 with Giroud minutes earlier only for Marriner to give Arsenal the foul, notwithstanding the fact that that Giroud is among the best at cynically backing into players.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Gardos and Reed (ffs) would have done any better.

Didn't see the game at all as on train - Was Pelle anonymous? No one mentioned him hardly.

he did alright. got little joy from the ref.

had one very good chance. In games like this, he needs to be miles better as he may only get 1 chance (like sunday)

Best performance since his last goal, i'd say. Just lacked a finish but only had two sights at goal, one from distance and one he snatched at - probably due to desperation at lack of goals.

Wouldn't say any blame can be laid at his feet though.

Now we can all wait for the media to talk about how we're failing the tough tests we were expected to fail.

But **** that.

We didn't fail tonight. We got cheated through injury, another crap ref, and a desparate home team getting stick from their fans for their performance for 75 minutes.

We really couldn't have done much more and we deserved the point we were robbed of.

But **** happens, and the injuries ARE worrying.

Our season shouldn't be defined by this week's results.

Definitely think we'll be looking at a couple of squad additions in the January window now.

Good lad!

I like the spirit and agree that there are positives to be taken.

Just so damn frustrating. We deserved that point.

Agree FFS why does Yoshida get blamed for everything?

And everyone knows Reed is a brilliant midfielder without any evidence. Oh and ignore any poor performances from Gardos
