Yet Armstrong was team captain up until four matches ago. What happened? Was something said or done in the frank conversations after the Hull game? Did the situation get out of hand or were bridges burnt then? Immediately, there were rumours that Armstrong wanted out, and the club has done, apparently, nothing to keep him here. There must be a story behind this. What did happen? Armstrong clearly wasn't one of the bad eggs imo. He came out a number of times to lambast standards and lack of effort, ran his socks off every game, looked pissed off over the bad run of form, and was stand in Captain for Stephens. Smells like a tactical PR leak tbh. Also, if he did get involved in a dressing room row over the shit period of results we've just been on, then fair play to him - or is it okay for the fans to tear into SR's poor performances and their tactical inflexibility, but not okay for the players to say it isn't good enough? Personally I'm sad to see him go, even if he isn't quite good enough for the prem (which ultimately isn't his fault, and may have been partly due to lacking quality around him). He has been fantastic for us in the champ and gave us all very fond memories from Wembley with a very well taken and important goal. Very uncertain as to how we will replace his goals and assists going forward, and if we don't go up then we've directly strengthened one of the main promotion contenders next season for a bargain price. I lost all respect for him when he basically said that he and they team weren't trying as hatrd when Still was here. 5
saintstowin Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I think we're a better squad with him in it but it's hard to justify giving him a starting place every week. Maybe that's reason enough to sell and I expect he was up for the move. One or both parties were looking at a future away from Saints last season too. He's played really well at times, best season the last champ one of course. And for a while this season looked like he was returning to form as a CF until the whole team turned rubbish again. I wish him well. And I'm saying that with no idea whether he's been disruptive etc. I've never picked up any of those vibes from him on or off the pitch. 2
Andy Hill Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Glad he has gone to be honest. Misses way too many chances and never is a No. 9 !! 4
Disco Stu Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I never took to him to be honest. Being our direct replacement for Danny Ings in the Premier League, he always symbolised our decline for me. Not his fault and he is a proven commodity in the Championship but his body language hasn't looked right for a while now. Not celebrating our goal against Portsmouth said it all. He wanted out and I won't miss him. Edited 20 hours ago by Disco Stu 8

benali-shorts Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I never really trusted his leprechaun beard. But did enjoy his unexpectedly clinical strike at Wembley. my third favourite Armstrong after David and Stuey (apologies to Ken). 1 2
HarvSFC Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago It would be nice if we could find someone you actually feel confident in scoring a penalty again. 4
suewhistle Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Well, at least we won't miss his ability in that direction.
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Brought in on what the club could reinvest of the Ings money, in the last half Gao season. He wasn't coming in as an upgrade, just as what we could afford and the hope his form at Blackburn the season before would continue. Which it didn't and we relied on others to keep us up in his first season. In his second, no one kept us up. When he struggled to score, you could see it knock him and he was often not in the side. He saw himself as a central player, although we often didn't play to accommodate that. Back in the Championship he thrived again. Sure, he's not our target man. But he's more than just being out wide. I think his ability to score from narrow angles after cut backs, really got our season going. That, his determination and work rate lifted the side. We were better with him being mobile, with better players to link up with. He got loads of assists for us too. SR are noted for failures to bring in strikers, chopping and changing systems with each manager, and reducing the quality of the squad. AA has come through all of those four years. While a first 11 may not seem to have a place for him, he's our top scorer for a reason. There was more to him than just goalscoring. It's a shame to see him go. He'd have been well down my list of players I'd like to see leave. As noted, we've probably just handed a good Championship scorer to a rival for next season. As for him, it's a new challenge away from our basket case club. But possibly joining another one, especially if they go down. 10
davefizzy14 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I wish Adam all the best. He always put a shift in and scored goals. The day out at Wembley was one of the best days ever topped off with his goal to clinch our promotion 😊 2
leeham_69 Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I remember seeing him score on debut, absolutely clinical in a 1-on-1 and thinking, "we're going to be ok after all"........ we weren't. Consistency and decision making clearly the two things preventing him becoming a top flight striker. Obviously lumping long balls to him would never work but nobody would care about his size if he scored even half the sitters he missed. Interesting summer window coming up! 1

Saint Fan CaM Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago He’s been a decent servant to the club, but it’s clear that he’d become stale and his time here was over. Good luck with Wolves…you’ll need it!
St. Ciervo Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) He may have ran a lot but to what end? Barring a blue moon, he always pulled up short and did these ridiculous baby steps instead of challenging. Prior to him, we had Ings and Long, so perhaps I am being overly critical because those two ran and created chances weekly. But AA also took bad shots that ruined good runs. He missed easy goals including pks on the reg. Someone else said it straight, "he was the symbol of our demise." I wish him the best, but I am confident that we won't miss his him. Adios! Now wrap Stewart in bubble wrap until the weekend. Edited 17 hours ago by St. Ciervo 2

Toadhall Saint Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Good luck Adam thanks for the hits especially the play off final.
CB Fry Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago In another universe imagine how you'd feel if the club had announced giving Armstrong a 3 and half year contract extension. That's what Wolves have given him. 2 2
Wade Garrett Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Not the best finisher and his movement in the box is poor. Didn’t want to be here and I think that showed in his performances. Won’t miss him. 2
Stripey McStripe Shirt Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Apparently he scored 43 goals in 175 games for us. Not bad, but not brilliant for someone that people consider a real goalscorer. Got to admit, feels like he scores more often, but I guess it's easy to forget about the number of games he couldn't hit a barn door in the Prem...

He got 35 of those in 1.5 seasons we've spent in the championship. Played in the right system, he's a very good striker at this level. He's not a lone number 9, we want to play with 1 striker and 2 wingers, he wanted out. Good move all round I'd say. 5
Dman Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago He'll link back up with Paul Trollope. I wonder if he would have learned anything from his short time with him here.

Have to say he has run his course at saints. He was very good for this league, and has been here whilst we have been a mental club for the wrong reasons. on relatively big money, so him and Aribo going now is a good bit of planning. Obviously a bit of a risk given he does scores goals, but hey ho. He will no doubt score against us next season, and will score 15+ for Wolves next year is used to his strength. 3
Midfield_General Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Been a useful championship level addition while we’ve been down here, and will have a place in our history for the play-off final goal, but physical attributes and lack of composure mean he’ll simply never be a premier league player, and especially not playing down the middle. Can’t blame him at all for wanting a fresh start somewhere else, but it’s going to be out of the frying pan and into the fire. Wolves are shite and the dressing room he’s joining will be as much of a demoralised mess as ours was when we were getting beaten week in week out. Then they’ll have to have a rebuild in the Championship, same as we have, which as we are witnessing can be a messy business and there’s no guarantee of bouncing straight back up. It will be interesting to see if their fans take to him, because if they’re putting him at no 9 at PL level we all know it’s pretty likely he’ll struggle, which won’t be a great start for him, regardless of whether he was bought for next season or not. For us, it’s not so much letting him go that’s the issue, especially given his contract situation, it’s much more about what we’ve replaced him with. Let’s hope it works out. kitch Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Blah blah goals blah blah running blah blah captain... The REAL question should be that Arma has gone - which player now has the shittest haircut? 3

Harry_SFC Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I think there's been a bust up at some point recently. Either way I don't think we will miss him as much as some think. With Scienza, Azaz and Stewart in the side I think we have enough goals. The problem is if any of those get injured (especially Scienza or Azaz) 1
Tamesaint Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Don't forget that for the second half of last season he pissed off to WBA. Perhaps his heart has never been at Saints over the last year and a half. 2
Saint Garrett Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Wish him all the very best, huge confidence player, and a big part of the problem in recent years. We got some money for him, and we get to move on... Difficult to not be behind this one really. 2
saint michael Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago It’s one thing getting these high earners out, but do you trust that the replacements are going to be any better than we have been seeing? Armstrong was ok, not great but you knew in champ he would be reasonable. This new bloke looks like a random name pulled out of the bingo bag in true Solak style… oh well
East Kent Saint Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago From Motd Wolves had 17 shots and 7 on target but failed to score ! Bournmouth had 4 on target and scored 2 , not sure AA is the answer though 😃
saint michael Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I’ve got someone I know inside wolves and they started planning for champ months ago. Inside it sounds very similar disorganisation to us

SR are clearly planning on being here next season too so are clearing the decks with a view to another rebuild in the summer. Football fans live from game to game. Clubs have to take a longer view, hence they often throw around the word “project.” 1

I just don’t understand being where we are now how their strategy changes to tun us around or their ability to implement anything successfully to bring about a different outcome.
SNSUN Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I feel for Wolves a bit. Similar situation to a lot of us clubs. They've gone from having Diogo Jota, Neto and Cunha to signing Armstrong and trying to get Adams. As happened with us, getting big money for players and bringing in shite replacements sucks for us fans. Some clubs manage it, Bournemouth and Brighton are two, but there's only a matter of time before they, too, see their gems go before the duds start appearing. 2
The Kraken Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Good luck to him. I hope he doesn't, but it would be nice if didn't get booed when he plays at St Marys. Always seems a bit tin pot when we do it for someone like that. 10
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Sometimes families get homesick. Completely understandable. I'll always be grateful to him for Wembley and I'll never forget his few words at the celebration at St. Mary's after we all got back: "I'm in no fit state to say anything but... what a f***ing season! " 5
OneMrsWallace Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago He should have been shifted on after we won promotion to the PL with our thanks for the Wembley goal. His lack of reaction to our goal at Pompey was unprofessional and not necessary, so on balance good time to move him out. 1 1

Oldandtired Posted 37 minutes ago Posted 37 minutes ago At least we've replaced him with proven quality. Oh hang on a minute...who?
Saint Billy Posted 31 minutes ago Posted 31 minutes ago The trouble with Armstrong is yes, he scored important goals, but he missed far far more. I remember on here the jokes about him constantly scuffing shots which he had a habit of doing, plus his penalties were either unstoppable or a joke. This coupled with his inability to perform in the prem, not that it is an issue now, just leaves me feeling his time here has past.
LiberalCommunist Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago Its such a shit fee that there's no way I can be happy with it. 7M for the Champ top scorer, 28 yo, on long term deal. Mental. (I dare someone to mention the add-on)
