Satisfying. Not just winning with 10 men, but especially considering who the opposition was.

Sour grapes from the Pompey manager who thought they might have won if playing against 9 men,

when he commented that Azaz should have had a red card, too. He should be grateful that his team

ended the game with all 11 on the pitch. Some of their players came very close to getting sent off.

According to the rules..Cam Bragg got two yellows and had to go, but his two fouls were amongst

least innocuous in the entire match, and although the ref. did well to keep things moving, he didn't

do us many favours either.  Azaz got MoM according to BBC, but aside from scoring the goal, I thought

Bree was hero on the day, and even upped his game when continuing to play with his taped-up head.

Watching the incident and the blood he shed, I felt sure he would go off.  A real tough Yorkshireman.

Still maintaining our good form, six points from the 2 two games will put us up into the play-off places

and it would surely be seen as a real achievement to get promotion ...despite the - 4 point start.

At least half their team were waving around wanting Bragg to get a 2nd card, Larin does it after getting fouled after the umpteenth time from Dia and gets booked 😅

Very small point I just remembered from the game that I found interesting, in the 2nd half the second freekick that we got Manning was lining up to take it and Stephens was yelling at him to let JWP take it, looked mightily pissed off. Think Manning has got a little big headed about his free kicks.

I noticed that too. Did Larin actually wave an imaginary card? I didn't think so from the other side of the stadium and annoyingly my recording at home used the wrong Sky channel and stopped at half time.

I didn’t think he did. Looked like he just threw his hand up more in frustration at being continually fouled.

That's exactly what I thought. Certainly not a yellow card.

No - he waved his arms in annoyance and happened to look at the player who fouled him whilst doing it. Ref (who was a bit crap anyway) perceived that as waving a card, so, waved a real card. That's how I saw it, it was ridiculous.

I took it as that and as soon as I said it and before he was booked I just thought ‘idiot’. Ref had a second to make the decision and FWIW I thought it correct. It’s not rocket science. A few moaning about the ref but I thought he had a decent game. It’s a derby and it’ll get heated. Yes he didn’t get everything right but so what? I much prefer the human element than the clinical VAR decisions.

Funny how we see things differently. Not saying I’m right or you’re wrong but it’s about opinions and that really matters. I hate VAR and not having it is a far better watch

Sorry lads watching on ITV he was sat on the floor and made the fingers holding an invisible card and slight hand motion whilst giving the ref a questioning look.

Noticed that too, Tonda might need to have a word. Also saw JWP asking Scienza to concede taking a corner and get in the box, which he did.

Yeah he did. And I make that the third time this season he's been booked for that.

He really needs to learn to stop doing it.

Different situation if he controls the ball and uses his body to shield it. It ran away from him allowing the player to get on the ball, leading to the foul. I wouldn’t have wanted the ball in that position in park football but players at that level are expected to play in tight areas. It wasn’t a one off, he did it twice, which calls into question his technical ability and decision making at this level. He is fine on the bench but I wonder whether Eckert now regrets starting him in a match of this magnitude. As it was, we got the result, but if Portsmouth hadn’t been so poor in attack the outcome would not have been so favourable.

* I’ve just watched it again and if he controls the ball as soon as he receives he has enough time to deal with it. He had enough time and space but as soon as the ball bounces away from him he is in trouble.

Agree. Quite a few are blaming Manning's throw that resulted in his first booking but Bragg should be expected to control that no problem and quickly lay it off. Manning threw it to the side where he could shield it but his touch let him down. In all good sides players expect to supply and receive the ball in tight areas so Bragg needs to improve that aspect of his game.

Great to see players taking responsibility the support Bragg received was quality but also Stephens , JWP directing play. Sure there’s been a few disagreements but it will settle down.

Manning puts in a far better delivery into the box than JWP who should only take free kicks in shooting range on the left imo.

I think if their motivational aromatherapy band had high enough scaffolding and got going we would have likely lost 4-1. People just don’t seem to believe that they are the bestest fans in the world anymore, and that’s gotta hurt when you have the collective IQ of Warwick Davis’s inside leg measurement:

Rewatched the match on telly - I reckon they should have had about four yellow cards and Devlin was lucky not to get a second yellow for taking out Azaz off the ball - Bragg's offences were no worse.

As for Larin's, yes, he did for a split second wave half a card, at a bloke who'd just taken him out to prevent a break...but the offender didn't get one even though it was one of several high-profile fouls he committed.

Inconsistent refereeing at its worst.

Either way, on TV the goal looked even better and we still hung on and won, so it's all good.

Just watched the highlights and lots blame Manning for the throw to Bragg which led to the first booking. If you watch it back Bragg was in plenty of space and Manning was perfectly entitled to throw the ball to him and expect him to deal with it - Adams was 6 or 7 yards away from Bragg. His touch was poor which is down to him and nothing to do with Manning.

Bragg seems a little weak to me not sure he will make it

It's easy to imagine that JWP is reticent to push too hard on that sort of thing as he is still a newcomer and trying to settle into the group, despite his club history and experience.

I’ve not watched it back on TV but I did notice he went over and had a chat with another official, and at the next breaking play seemed to be pleading with the ref - I thought his body language was suggesting he really felt he hadn’t done what he had been booked for - perhaps noting that he’d already been booked twice for that.

I wonder if he thought he was making a “that’s the third/fourth time I’ve been booted up in the air” hand gesture - which is fine apparently  - but that looked like the heinous crime of suggesting what a competent ref might do in such a situation - which is clearly unacceptable (except for highly capped England internationals).

In an interview I listened to yesterday (the Blackmore Solent one probably) Tonda himself called out the throw-in to Bragg as not being great... can't remember his exact words but he was certainly laying part of the blame on Manning (without explicitly naming him)

Agree. I wouldn't say it was the best throw from Manning but Bragg needs to be much sharper and his poor touch was quite typical of how he started the game, he looked very edgy.

Another point on Manning who folks seem keen to find fault with; Azaz has rightly been praised for his 2 superb through balls for Bree and Scienza, but Manning also deserves credit for his excellent long through ball for Larin early on, which could equally have resulted in a goal.
