I have lived practically all my life in Southampton apart from when i was very young and spent my first few years in Spain. I am lucky enough to have travelled extensively both in the UK and abroad which has given me a good feel for other parts of the UK and abroad.

I love Southampton and always will, it is home, it is where i was moulded and where i became who i am now.

It has some nice places as other people have mentioned before, we are lucky to have very mild weather, the New Forest on our doorsteps, Ocean Village is a very nice place to live and socialise, Oxford Street is one of my favourite haunts and the City is loaded with history.

It also like any other big cities has absolute shit holes which i won't name because someone has to live there and often not by choice.

Are we better than some other cities, yes of course we are, are we better than every other city and obviously the answer is a resounding NO!

Personally i've had my fill of Southampton and cannot wait to leave the city, i hate what it has become over the years and a sunny climate and glorious tranquil setting hopefully is not to far away. None of this changes my love for SFC and Southampton will always be my home.....but sometimes we could do with removing those rose tinted glasses and admit on the whole this country has absolutely gone to the dogs and no matter where you are living it is a shit place to live!

The property company that has a 10% stake in NUFC owns plenty of land in the city , unfortunately they seem to be hell bent on building office blocks rather than homes ordinary people could afford to buy . I expect the redevelopment will be similar to central London ie any historical building will be dwarfed by high rises .

This is quite sweet so many Saints fans slagging off their area. Not too late to change your club. Exciting times ahead at Newcastle. Hear there is brilliant night life for all you 40somethings.

I find it incredibly ironic that someone who has been so virtuous regarding kneeling footballers etc is now supportive of Newcastle United being bought up by the Saudi Govt who’s human rights record is on record as being abhorrent.

And to think you called ME a ‘thick Cunt’ LOL!!!
You’re a fraud.

@TotalSaintsPod are talking to him this week.

When? Is it too late to suggest questions to Martin Seemens- such as

1. What is the likelihood of a takeover before the end of the season/start of next season?

2. How much are the board/owner pursuing a takeover - or is it soley left to bidders to contact the club?

3. Are there any legacy issues that would stop a similar takeover to the Newcastle one- such as ethics standpoint of future owners etc?

4. Would the club ever revert to the sole ownership of KL?

There’s reading between the lines and just making it up a la Boris Ha Ha ! I can’t remember anyone on here supporting the Saudi take over only wishing someone would take Saints over.

It was inevitable since Brexit , Truss said at the Tory campaign rally this week that now we’ve given the Europeans the 2 fingers we need to suck up to dodgy Arab regimes . I see Boris vetoed the head of armed forces and put in a navy man so we can rule the waves again , might be good for our friends down the road !

6. Why don’t the club announce contract extensions for McCarthy and Stephens, who are first team players. We find out their new deals through reports in the Athletic.

As funny as that story is, 95% of fans wouldnt care who took over their club as long as they pumped money in for transfers. Remember the Glazers Out movement last season, storming Old Trafford and the likes of Gonzo Neville demanding change.....its all went very quiet since they splurged a heap of money on Sancho, Verane, Ronaldo etc. Funny how the fans said it was about the Super League and the debt (which has went up with these transfers) which the Glazers were accruing....nothing to do with falling behind your rivals City and Liverpool 🤥

Sorry egg, I can't agree with that at all. I don't understand how people can be ok with him.

Don't be fooled into thinking he's appointed anyone, he has advisors in this country who he tells to go and do whatever. Semmens himself has said that he's managing the takeover enquiries, he manages the day to day, he appoints the managers, he appoints people like Crocker etc. There's zero involvement from Gao and he has no say in the day-to-day running of the football club. Out of choice, I might add - he's not interested.

For me, that's bad. Not just in a financial sense but because there's no shared interest top down, all this creates is a situation where a club is in limbo without any clear objectives from above. We're in a situation whereby we're just being kept 'ticking over' by business people on this side of the pond, who aren't themselves the people who should be setting the goals or plans.

There's nothing positive about the Gao reign. The longer he stays the more damage that is being done.

The question was whether we'd take Ashley over Gao. Of the two, I'm OK with Gao - Ashley is an odious man.

Re the appointments - no owners of a reasonable sized business personally hires and fires. Whether it's Gao or his advisors making the decision, who cares - Semmens and Crocker are her and they're good news. Expecting anything else, and criticizing Gao for hiring people to help make crucial decisions, misunderstands how things are done.

The positives of Gao's reign are obvious - he's not raped or pillaged the club financially, and he's offered stability. the only real negative is a lack of financial input but if what we're told is correct, he's either skint but can't find as buyer, or the directives laid down by his government mean that he can't put cash in.

Give me Gao over Ashley.

I'm saying what Gao has done. Other than being unable (for whatever reason) to put cash in he's done absolutely nothing wrong as an owner.

Ashley was a retail genius. Genuinely innovative thinker that changed preconceived industry group think in many  areas. If you want a self sustained club,I’d have him over Gao everyday of the week.

Each to their own Duck. Personally, I wouldn't want him.

Assuming you are referring to the quote 'raping and pillaging the club financially'.  With the exception of last year when COVID hit all clubs profitability, Newcastle regularly make a profit ie. pretax profit to year ending July 2019 was £41M.  I have heard a total profit over the last 3 years of approx £100M. That is money which could have gone on the squad or facilities.

There was also the dodgy sponsorship deal. But I basically agree with you.

Imagine if Gao gave Alan Pardew an eight-year contract!

Or tried to rename the stadium. Or got us relegated twice. Or hired Joe Kinnear. Etc etc

Money they club owe him when he took over, to turn a profit

Just think, our money will going to the company that hold the door keys to Derby County, whilst we scrape a few quid together for players not good enough to start (Lyanco)

Not the same thing, as that was the original name of the stadium rather than a proposed name change.

Incorrect. The original stadium name was announced as the Friends Provident Stadium. St Mary’s was added after fans complained.

The official ground name at opening was 'The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium'. Initially the club wanted the ground to be named purely after the sponsors, but fan pressure influenced the decision to include a non-commercial title.

Bollox.

Only those born in the sound of St Mary's can support the Saints.
