It seems logical that any significant extension (2-3 on top of his final year) would be at a much higher salary, at least double I would suggest. If Koeman has been on holiday it may simply be a case of waiting til he is back in Southampton to sign, I guess the club and him know exactly what the situation is already. I don't think many people are suggesting that Saints are a bigger club than Everton. Purely that it wouldn't make much sense for Koeman to make the move there as the difference isn't all that these days. Put aside any bias and think, if you were in his position would you go to Everton? Or would you spend another year at Saints and more than likely get a bigger job offer after? Everton might be able to offer a bigger salary and transfer budget but you sure as hell aren't going to be playing Champions League football anytime soon. It's not quite a sideways move, more like 80 degrees. I have a good friend who is an Everton fan and he fully recognises that the only possible thing Everton can offer Koeman over us at the present is more money. Their bigger history and larger trophy cabinet means jack sh*t in the here and now. Of course, the talk is that he would be offered a huge transfer fund if he went there. But why on Earth would he opt to bail out from a club where he has spent the last two seasons building his own team to join one that is not playing in Europe next season, will probably lose its best players this summer, and will still struggle to attract the really top players no matter how much money they offer?
