Virgil Transfer Rumours - Summer 17

Stuck between a rock and a hard place. If reports are to be believed the situation is now beyond re-integration so maybe time to cut our losses and cash in. On the flip side, no way we can be seen to give into a tantrum and let him get his own way on this one. Feel for the club on this one...

Ideally I'd want him to rot for the entire length of his contract but no chance that happening so make him sweat a little longer. No way we sell him this window, ignore him, isolate him and screw over whoever the most desperate is come January. By then I may not even care if it's the scousers...

Did any of you really believe he would be here after September 1st?

Only if VVD did a huge uturn was that ever going to happen...and that wasn't going to happen.

From day one VVD was going....and the club knew it.

Just Spouting bluster to save face.

I expect they were hoping bids came in much sooner, barring Liverpool,so that it can be settled.

He was always for sale.

Clubs no we need him gone....leave it later,we will accept a poorer deal.

It's very clear now that whatever stance Saints take with VVD they won't win in opinion.

IF the deal is to Chelsea for 70-80m and Christiansen and Remy come on loan as suggested on this thread then I think that's a very good deal.

Having Hoedt in the door before we sell has strengthened our position. Of course VVD and Hoedt / Other is a lot stronger than Yoshida and Stephens but Hoedt plus Stepehens or Yoshida is better. Add Christiansen into that mix and actually it's a really decent group.

That solution would then mean a well equipped squad with 70+m in the bank for next summer after 12 months identifying another new CB.

In many ways I think I like that solution better than keeping him!!

I don't like loan players. Never have, never will. If VVD goes, I would expect more than loan players.

I think it's very difficult to criticise Les & Ralph for the stance they've taken under extreme circumstances. I do believe (and I'm not itk) that they intended to keep VvD and intergrate him into the squad after 1st Sept and the close of the transfer window. However, the behaviour of VvD prompted by his agents has made this impossible, and so I think that selling him is now the only option. His alleged behaviour in returning from his injury last season gives an insight into what we would look forward to if we kept him.

Why go through all the hassle of the summer and then cave in at the end?

I think that's a pretty easy one to answer. It seems well known that Cedric and Ryan Bertrand will not happy about VvD getting a move and will have also agitated for a move themsleves. The club had to take a stand to try and move perception away from us being a selling club.

Moving forward, I hope the club stay professional in public and stay quiet about what has happened, but I hope they brief the press off the record about VvD & his agents behaviour so that every gets to know what a d!ck he has been.

I dislike van Dijk as much as the next man, but 'the Club' - I'm guessing this basically means Les Reed - invariably seems to to get involved in a protracted, acrimonious mess with lots of negative stories leaked to the press, when nearly all of our players and managers are sold. The Club gets its money in the end, even if it is a bit less than it might have been if things had been handled better. Surely it would be much better for the Club's reputaion if negotiations and discussions between administrators and players which take place behind closed doors were kept private. This would help rebuild th trust which no longer seems to exist.

the train of thought is that we normally conduct our business in private. Maybe for incoming, we do. Outgoings, no chance. It is the same most times, plenty of 'leaks' in the press.

Yes if only the club had kept private VvD's urgent desire to play for Jurgen Klopp, not to mention their awful decision to release his statement about requesting a transfer. How could they have been so naive.

I am sure that had the club quietly off-loaded our captain in May to the dippers for an "undisclosed fee" you would have been perfectly fine with that.

Yeah if everyone played by the rules. Liverpool are terrible at conducting their business with their multiple press briefings and ex-players getting involved.

Saints have to answer back when dealing with these c*ckroach's.

You would think Liverpool would change tactics as they mess up so many transfers.

Here's an idea to shut up the nasty cynic fraternity...

The next time you get told something that's not in the public domain and is about to break in the coming hours/days, send a private message (or email ) to one of the mods or admins 'in confidence'. Then, when the news breaks the aforementioned mod/admin can confirm that you knew beforehand. You might say that's a bit of a faff, but it's actually quite a simple and quick step that a genuine 'ITKer' could do in order to corroborate their credibility.

Just an idea.

Of they could just send a post to an internet forum sharing what they know when they know it? Surely the whole point of ITKery is to share what you know with those who aren't ITK?

That was the way we used to conduct business transactions -discretely- before and, yes, it was better. The Club now is more like a soap opera, with every player and manager who is sold cast as the evil villain, and Les Reed as the hard done by hero.

not just liverpool though, usually when we sell a good player, usually coupled with a negative story about said player in the press

It was only a suggestion. Other notions are available. No big deal. My next mission is world peace. Should be a breeze compared with attempting to seek harmony on here ;) Edited by trousers

If van Dijk goes now to Chelsea or better still, somewhere abroad, I could just about live with that if we get a big price and spend most of it on improving the squad. If he goes to Liverpool I'm not sure that I could stomach it. Have already bought my season ticket so of course will continue to go , but maybe this would be my last season. I don't know ..... I've been watching football for about 45 years so it's a big part of my life. But the cynicism, greed and straightforward lying that now seems to be prevalent in football at this level makes me sick.

Greedy players and agents and bloody tv will eventually kill the golden goose as more and more fans become disenchanted.

Which players did you have in mind? Mane, Lambert, Ox, Shaw, Chambers, Toby, the Right back who's name I can't remember, JRod? Or Lovren & Lallana?

Small steps trousers, build yourself up to world peace. Start with trying to get a peace treaty between me and Turkish.
I think you love eachother really. The spikey banter is merely a facade masking your mutual passion and devotion. Just a hunch :)

P.s. apologies for going off topic folks. It's contagious on here ;)

Did you read what you wrote? It was better when the club conducted its business discreetly? Where exactly has the club been indiscreet? It wasn't the club that started discussions with Liverpool. It wasn't the club that put out a public transfer request. But once those actions had happened the club responded by reporting the illegal approach and by restating that VVD is not for sale. What would you have had them do differently?

What's had been leaked to the press? Nothing, nobody knows anything, everybody is guessing, putting two and two together and coming up with five. The club have been consistent throughout this whole sorry saga, i can't actually remember Les Reed saying anything about it in public, Ralph yes, but not Les. There are a few supposed ITK posters here who have posted snippets, very few of which can be taken as gospel, so essentially all the business is being conducted discreetly and properly within the club. Leaks have not come from the club, far too many people believing what they read on social media and gutter press.

VvD may well end up going in the next couple of days, but i really don't think that the club have handled this badly at all, in fact quite the opposite.

Krueger has had an absolute Hooiveld if we do end up selling him.

Why go through all the hassle of the summer and then cave in at the end? Would literally be no benefit to Saints. Could just have sold in May and moved on, with probably a different transfer budget to what we had.

Bednarek an increasingly bewildering signing were VVD to go.

Kruger said in his most recent interview that he couldn't guarantee VVD wouldn't be sold if a very large bid was made. His honesty is refreshing.

I shoved money on him staying a couple of weeks back when it looked like the club would stand firm, so now he's bound to go....

Like most I could just about accept him going to Chelsea or abroad but why the hell are we going to cave in to the scousers yet again. After the way they've acted he we should refuse point blank to do business with them. Sky bet have him odds on to go there now

So where was Jayrod rubbish then or doesnt he qualify as good?

There was plenty on Jay last season. We were often told about his strops and reactions to being dropped + the leaks about him supposedly all ready to leave for Spurs before his injury.

We weren't told about them. You could see the strops and unhappiness as being subbed clear as day on the match day streams, but don't let that cloud your judgement.

Sneaky of the club to get Jay's old man and brother to do all that tweeting as well. Brilliant PR.

His dad told us Jay was going to join Spurs before his injury? My bad thought that came from one of our many ITKs that seem to come n go
He was going to join SPurs and jump ship. I know that as a work contact, socialised with him and he was open that he was following Poch to Spurs. It was all agreed as far as I recall
