Dortmund move ahead of Bayern in race for Bella-Kotchap

Borussia Dortmund have moved ahead of Bayern Munich in the race to sign Southampton defender Armel Bella-Kotchap, according to Sky in Germany

Bayern’s focus on signing Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah to bolster their defensive options has given Dortmund the chance to step up their pursuit of Bella-Kotchap.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the Bella-Kotchap deal still has a way to go, though.

Dortmund’s proposal includes a £6.8m loan fee with a £17.2m obligation to buy next summer, plus at least another £4m in bonus payments.

Bella-Kotchap, 21, is yet to feature for Southampton this season because of injury.

A £28m deal for ABK? That's too good to turn down, surely.

If the £17.2m was paid over 2 years it'd essentially be the same as getting £24m over 3 years (standard as I understand it), but giving us an extra year of amortisation of what he cost us. Even if those add ons were micky mouse ones, this feels like a no brainer if he's not going to be playing for us.

Surely that fee can't be right? If so then cheerio ABK.

Won't get too excited until a deal has been done but this lad is just what our defence needs. He's big, strong and commanding and can carry the ball out of defence and also ping a pass. Would be brilliant for us but not counting chickens.

Bayern also interested in Eric Dier so Dortmund seems the only choice.

I don’t know anything about Harwood-Bellis. Genuine question, is he better than ABK?

Worth googling his skills videos. There's an 8 minute one which I think is mainly from last season when he was at Burnley. Looks an absolute beast of a centre back with plenty of skill and a superb range of passing. Really hope we get this done.

Is it Harwood-Bellis or Wood?

Or are we after both?

Would that suggest that Bednarek is on his way given we've refused offers earlier this summer. Could be an interesting few days

Nothing would surprise me...us signing both with Bednarek and ABK leaving is as possible as anything else.

Some random on twitter is saying THB is in the south finalising a move. Obviously huge buckets of salt but fingers crossed!

To be fair to him he tweeted that 7 hours ago...

Had a busy day, have I missed anything?

"Yeah we're close to a loan for Harwood-Bellis, the defender everyone wants including some Premier League teams that excelled in this league last season with Burnley."

Ah cool. No striker news then... 😝

Meanwhile, City centre-half Taylor Harwood-Bellis is another academy
product expected to move before Friday's deadline. Nottingham Forest had the England under-21 captain on a list of potential additions
but Southampton have won the race to sign him on a loan deal. It is understood that former City coach Enzo Maresca, now the manager of Leicester
City, is now unlikely to sign him.

Can only hope he’s right.

Otherwise we can file it with the Sunday evening post from summer 2003 that Rupert Lowe had been spotted driving into Birmingham on the Aston Expressway and therefore we had to be  signing an England international striker from Villa. (Name escapes me but he eventually signed for Man City).

You didn’t hear about Ross Stewart then?

As we said when Dortmund are said to be out, ABK will end up at Dortmund.

If his buyout clause is €25m (who knows if that is true) then the price is right, even if the format is unorthodox.

Highly likely it's a chancer that's got lucky. Alex crook also tweeting about it too so I guess that's doomed. Back to Wood

It’s now in the Telegraph so looking very promising, this would be a real coup.
