Pompey promoted :spaz:

Genuinely couldn’t give a fuck.

Actually, that’s a lie. If we don’t go up this season then having a derby next season is massively preferable to me to not having one.

A few more goals would have been nice but pretty much perfect in every sense. About half hours worth of effort, coasted the rest. Just what you want with a fixture pile up.

 Very disappointing  second half.
absolute rubbish.
shows we can’t break down a resilient side.
And that was a dire Preston. .

Hope you're joking. We werent even trying.

Give Charles credit tonight, probably best I've seen him play. Best of the subs for sure.

Everyone that started was excellent tonight. Not sure who I'd give MOTM though, Che for his two perhaps, KWP was up there too and AA was good. Probably Stu before he was subbed, he was a man possessed tonight.

Exactly.

About as perfect as you could have hoped (excluding the injury to Bazunu ofc).

Enjoyed that, same again on Saturday please.

Taken as little out the players as possible ahead of Cardiff/Leicester over the next week

Perfect for Downes to only have 45 as well

Still don’t think we can win them all, but play like we did in the first half and we’ll have a damn good chance

Great result that, dominated and killed the game off early doors and coasted the rest. If we could have put away chances like that in so many other games we’d be out of sight by now.

Hopefully that winning mentality unites the squad through the last few games and we pull off something incredible.

Can we just have a comfortable 3-0 win for once. Heart cant take much more of us throwing away leads, only to win it in at the death. Something a bit more straight forward would be nice

Lovely. On to saturday

Well good game.

1st half very good,passing excellent.

1nd half coasted after 10.minutes.

All.we got to do now is keep the same team going forward.......and play Preston every game until the end of the season.

The top three must be feeling the pressure now, with us breathing down their necks.

Happy today.

Absolutely perfect performance.

Good of Preston to oblige and give us such an easy game really. Not to take anything away from the team because they still needed to do the biz and put it to bed, but that was a real stroll in the park.

All done in the first half.

Downes going off meant we lost a lot of drive in the midfield. Charles preferred lots of short, safe passes. The tiring Aribo went off with Stu, taking our physical and creative parts too. Smallbone bright and available to link up, without any move really coming together. Rothwell didn't make a massive impact.

Shame that Adams didn't get the hattrick, as he carved out a couple of good chances. AA continued to work hard, but had to slow down sometime, and we didn't create anything for him centrally. Both Edozie and Sule did what the usually do. Bright, but without anything of note coming from it.

Apart from an odd McCarthy moment Preston didn't offer much this half either. We had all the possession, all the control. Our impact with it faded markedly to trying to craft out select chances, rather than have the tempo of the first.

Martin might look at the subs not really making a massive impact, thinking of games when we'll need them to. Perhaps not scoring against a side purely on the defensive. But the job was already done, with any number of good all round performances.

Automatic was done and dusted after Ipswich. Win on Saturday and we'll have put ourselves firmly back in the mix.

Leicester and Leeds with tough games on paper and Ipswich not playing.

A chance to seize the initiative and set up a huge game next Tuesday.

Imagine what could have been if we had just managed that game better and not thrown it away.

Well, we'd still be out of the auto spots (on GD alone), but more importantly we'd be above Ipswich and only a point off top with the top two still to play.

It's not over yet. Will still be a few twists and turns yet before the season is over I reckon.

Well managed by RM, he gave Downes a rest and Charles slotted in well and got a useful 45 minutes under his belt. We controlled the second half and their keeper made 2 brilliant stops while Preston were easily kept at arms length aside from a brain fart between McCarthy and Manning. We didn't bust a gut which was sensible with key games coming thick and fast. Some terrific individual performances and a great boost for our confidence. Clean sheet for McCarthy! On to Cardiff and a win will really put pressure on the top 3. Just saying now that Baz not expected to play again this season.

Good performance, nothing more.  Preston were the most passive side I have seen this season, they were very poor and offered nothing at all.   I could've played in goal and the result would've been the same, Alex looked poor in this system and had a couple of dodgy spells. The subs made us weaker, but no complaints as it was a resting players exercise.  We looked good tonight, but we looked good against a very poor side, there are much tougher tests to come.

Managed to catch the last 30 mins of the game with no sound from a coffee shop - looked like we totally dominated and should have scored far more. As comfortable as I've seen us this season...passing looked good...everyone running off the ball to make the easy pass available...good switching the play. Saw us have at least two very presentable chances to score a fourth but not complaining...

Now to gub Cardiff...

Sound like Gavin Bazunu out for the season.

Fucking shit

Mccarthy or Lumbly now till the end.

Just as.we start to gel.

But I thought bazunu was a terrible keeper? that seems to be the consensus on here

Adam Armstrong

Second highest scorer in the league

Third highest assist in the league

Still.not in the Championship team of the season.

I'm surprised Stephens wasn't shoehorned into it!

Seriously it's crazy. Yes Whittaker has been good at a lesser side but AA has been consistently good. 31 goal contributions (goals and assists) and the season isn't over. And Rutter as a striker only has 6 goals. Even Mavididi has been better. Not sure about Greaves at CB either.

Not over, but still think that horrible goal we gifted Ipswich at the death will cost us in the end

Will make us stronger tbh.

Less faffing about at the back and more shots saved hopefully

I tend to agree. We may need a keeper who can make game-winning saves to grind out a couple of backs to the wall wins.

Macca has shown in the past that he is capable of that. Bazunu never has.

As easy a games as you'll see, the other three at the top won't have liked to have seen that, even if Preston were shit. So close for the season to be in our hands. Win our games against Leicester and Leeds and we're in the middle of them. Going to be an exciting end to the season. Unless we lose at Cardiff then it'll be shit.

Bazunu not being great doesn't make our backup keepers any better.

You’re right, but I trust McCarthy in 4 games a load more than I do Bazunu. Let’s face it, we’ve 3 shite keepers.

The perfect performance tonight. We absolutely ripped them apart 1st half to get into a 3-0 lead. Second half was comfortable and game managed to perfection by RM. Two more for Che 😊 (nearly got a hat trick which he fully deserved to) and one for Stuart Armstrong 😊 (had another effort hit the post). The whole team were superb, so exciting to watch 😊 we have all the momentum now for the run in - COYR 😊
