Loads of interesting things about Trump testing positive:

Effectively gives him just over two weeks of active campaigning before the election (assuming he recovers well).  Does that help or hinder him?

Americans are patriotic - will he get some kind of boost in the polls because of sympathy?

If he's not seriously ill will this encourage Trump supporting people who doubt the severity of the illness anyway to further ignore restrictions?

How do the democrats play this?  Attacking a bloke who is seriously ill rarely goes down well.

If Trump doesn't have a serious reaction and he's left in isolation with just his phone and twitter for company then how deranged and mad will his tweets become?

Just suppose he did die. What would happen to the election? Would Biden get a walkover? Would his VP Pence contest the election in his place?

In that event the Constitution is clear - VP Pence would become President. However Pence would not necessarily be the automatic choice to contest the election. (I mean he would, because in terms of the time available to the GoP to arrange an alternative Primary is impossibly small).

Funnily enough I was trying to see what would happen if Biden snuffed it before the election. Again, Harris would almost certainly simply take his place, but again there is no Constitutional requirement or precedent in relation to the ballot

The let that Kenyan Obama do it! 🤣

Except he was born in Hawaii. Any birther argument against is based on his name and colour of skin. Although his mother can trace her ancestry back to the colony of Virginia.....a darnslight further back than the Drumpf family.

Sadly he seems to be. Has a reason to stay away from journalists / Biden / anyone who could trip him up for as long as he wants, and tweet about his resilience knowing his fans will lap it up..

It won't do him any good. He will be toast after 3 November. He could well be in prison in a couple of years.

I have a way of telling who will an election by counting signs. And in the areas where Trump out performed in the election the signs are not outside peoples houses like they were 4 years ago. So I am pretty confident to say he is toast. If he cannot run up the vote in the rural areas like last time there is no way he overcomes the enthusiasm gap. I think for many people they just got board of hearing the same old stuff over and over, without being able to develop new ideas, for the current problems.

A humbling Herman Cain/coronavirus timeline:

6/24: Attends Trump rally, maskless

7/2: Tests positive for Covid-19

7/10: Says he’s improving

7/15: Says his doctors seem happy

7/27: Says he’s really getting better

7/30: Dies

So 28 days from positive test to death. Trump certainly not out of the woods yet. I wonder how many more people he will infect while he's still contagious and pumped full of steroids.

Once again the key is to not look at the big shouty stuff, but at the finer minutiae - in the most recent polls (even the ones he normally likes - Rasmussen) he is behind Biden Nationally by between 8-10 points.

In the Battleground states he is losing in 12 of the 14, but most worrying for him is that he and Biden are basically tied with Non college educated White men.

Trump is now in last chance territory - he basically needs a massive scandal to hit Biden/Harris (I can't see how we wouldn't know about it by now); a massive win - I am not sure what that would look like, other than a miracle breakthrough and cure for Covid that can be easily rushed out - or Biden dying.

As I said before, I get the feeling that a lot of Americans are simply tired of the chaos, the scandal and the (easily disprovable) lies. Normality with all its own flaws, looks attractive. It should also be remembered that Trump fluked it in 2016 - Hilary won the popular vote by over 3 million votes*. An election where the winner of the popular vote loses the electoral college has only occurred 5 times in US History (although twice in the last 20 years) - Bush beat Gore because of the ridiculous focus on Florida and the votes for Ralph Nader; Clinton had more than 3 Million more votes; but in the main Dem Sinks of the West Coast and East Coast - she basically lost the election by about 20,000 votes spread over 3 states. Which is totally bonkers! It explains why Trump and his team have struggled to replicate their 'success' - they don't understand how he did it in 2016.

*The margin in % in the 2016 popular vote was 2.1%; which was a bigger margin than Kennedy, Nixon (1968) or Carter achieved in their election victories. If Biden ended with a 10% margin in the popular vote (I don't think he will!) he could end up with a very big win.

Good analysis Ed.  I know everyone (or everyone with sense) in the US freaks out at the suggestion that Biden has already won, but it's difficult to see a way back for Trump.*  The harder he tries, the more he blows up his own campaign.  In just a few days now, the US will wake up from the most surreal dream.

*(Let's see how well this post does when compared with the outcome - will it out-Nostradamus our always-wrong OP?)

He's now telling his supporters he is completely immune and will kiss everyone. This after it was revealed he was planning to emerge from hospital and rip off his shirt to show a superman outfit underneath. The man is completely unhinged.

You can clearly see how desperate he is getting by looking at his Twitter feed over the last week. It's horrendous even by his own pathetically low standards.

The biggest plus for Trump in 2016 was his unpredictability - it seemed to throw Clinton and her team off; they were fire-fighting and trying to confront every issue. Biden and his team have learned to let him dig his own hole.

My biggest fear is that Biden has an absolute shocker of a 2nd debate. Although it is rare for them to have any real effect on the outcome of an election, if Biden has or appears to have a 'Senior moment' it could be enough to tighten the polls in some of those swing states. Then it becomes an issue where Trump and his supporters will be likely leading on Election night, before all the postal votes have been counted - that is where it gets dangerous. It is vital for the major News Networks not to call anything early and for Biden and his team to keep pressure on to count the vote and to stop Trump stealing the election.

Fox News. Nuff said.

Yes, it was really clever of them to cobble together all those tapes of bumbling Biden and make it look as if he didn't know what day of the week it was, or where he was, wasn't it?  Biden as POTUS; "What does this red button do? I can't remember. I'll just give it a little press and see what happens"

Have they done a similar piece on, as you term him, the buffoon. As you said in your earlier post, what a choice !

I wonder what Fox News position was on George W Bush or Reagan?  Both capable of forgetting names and appearing senile.  To be honest I don't think many sensible people would say Biden is the best Democrat to be president - but he is the one with the best chance of beating Trump and getting elected.  He's inoffensive and doesn't give people a reason not to vote for him - you can tell this because Trump and the rest of the republican party have reverted to the tried and trusted tactic of calling him a radical left socialist.  What a joke.  I hope that if/when Biden does get elected and if they manage to control both houses (all of which seems likely) then they do make Puerta Rica and Washington DC states.  Republicans have and will use any trick in the book to get (and retain) power - they have no shame and so it's time the Democrats did the same.  Incidentally on the subject of Fox News and CNN - both partisan to the point of being propaganda.  Admittedly CNN is a bit more clever about it but very tiresome when you're looking for a genuine unbiased view.

He might well have, but Fox went out of their way to paint him in a specific light.

The media over there is just the same as it is over here. We all know which newspapers and which TV channels represent which political faction. It is no surprise at all that the media attempts to show their political bias for those whose policies they support and against those whose stance they oppose. Fox would not have been able to portray Biden as fast approaching senility if he was a lot more compos mentis. The same applies to CNN, who have plenty of ammunition supplied by Trump with his tendency to shoot from the lip about everything.

When it comes to TV news that, frankly, is rubbish.  Both Fox and CNN rarely provide a dissenting voice or try to show the other side of the argument whereas all UK TV news invariably does.  I'll grant you the print media is biased and obviously so but that doesn't apply to the TV channels.  Of course if you're looking for bias then you're going to get it whether it exists or not but you only need to spend half an hour comparing any UK TV news output with both Fox and CNN to see that the two countries are not comparable.  Indeed we even have ofcom there to ensure impartiality whereas the US abolished the fairness doctrine.  Don't really want to get into a debate over bias in the BBC (again) but the assertion that we have comparable output in TV news is wrong.

Wondering how fast and far bad news for Biden spreads so are you aware of the New York Post's release of Hunter Biden's emails?

I am aware of the 'emails'. It appears that they may be heavily edited, of no consequence or actually just fake. If this was the big scandal that Trump was hoping for then Donald is toast. It has been pretty easy for the Dems and Biden's campaign to prove that Joe Biden didn't meet anyone connected to the Ukraine Burisma thing.

Most surprising of all is that the Trump campaign seem to have forgotten which Biden is running for President. Keep an eye on the result from Florida on election night. Because they count the votes as they go (rather than wait), we will probably have an actual result on the night. If Trump loses Florida, then he will have lost the election.

Did I say that we have comparable output in TV news to the USA? No, I thought not. But I stand by my assertion that all of the media outlets show bias towards their political viewpoint, both here and in the USA including our TV. The BBC is clearly biased towards the left and against Brexit, and Ofcom is a joke. Any complaints about the BBC have to go through the BBC first, before going to Ofcom only if one is unhappy with their response.

Well you said the media output which includes TV news doesn't it?  Perhaps you should be a bit more precise when you frame these things otherwise you're in danger of people taking you at your word.  As I say, don't really want to get into the whole BBC bias.  I don't think it is but it's a personal opinion and you couldn't really measure it even if you wanted to so I'm not going to convince you.  Pretty effing obvious we don't have the equivalent of Hannity, Tucker Carlson or even Anderson Cooper on British TV let alone the BBC so in that respect TV output between the countries is not the same.

You still don't get it. I said that both sets of media over here and over there were biased towards the political stance they favoured. I didn't make any statement comparing our level of bias with theirs. Instead of me having to be more precise, perhaps you could read more carefully. We might not have direct equivalents in our presenters to theirs, but we certainly have programmes and presenters on the BBC and other stations who make their political and Brexit allegiances pretty clear. But I accept that you don't wish to discuss that

Yes, it will make it virtually impossible if he loses Florida - he'll have to hold onto the rust belt states (namely Penns and Wisconsin), Arizona, take Nevada, and then some. (He's trailing in all of these places, and with a less likely chance to clinch them than when he did 4 years ago)

However, with so many postal votes around the country to count and 'contest', we still won't know officially until days/most likely weeks afterwards.

The problem for Trump is that economic prosperity is difficult to gauge this year as COVID and the administrations handling of it are the main concern for most voters. There are certainly some aspects of the last 4 years that have been positive, but because Trump and his team are so chaotic, even the good news ends up getting drowned out. He may point to a adversarial news media etc, but if had any sort of consistency of message it might cut through.

Even last night, while Biden was avoiding the question on 'Court packing'; Trump lied about Masks and their effectiveness, failed to condemn QAnon and also interestingly didn't comment on the Hunter Biden thing - which is the clearest indication that it is total b*llocks!

I simply don't understand the Trump campaign message - there is no discipline and I don't even think they are at panic stations yet, they know they are losing (badly in some places) and it will take a miracle or massive illegality for them to win from here

There has been such a turnover in his staff, he's sacked or fallen out with so many, that I'm not sure there are many who really believe in him anymore. Perhaps they're simply not motivated nor have a proper battle plan - that or they are just trying to avoid saying anything which will land them in jail later.

Rudy Guliani, Trump's lawyer, on being caught up in the new Borat film; "This is an effort to blunt my relentless exposure of the criminality and depravity of Joe Biden and his entire family."

I don't think Sacha Baron Cohen is working undercover for the Democrats.
