Player exchange maybe? But agree they will need money in and try to recruit cheaply

Just what I was thinking. We just offset their costs, and they get some wages off their books.

Failing that, a loan exchange for the season. Gives us a chance to see how much scar tissue any of their players has.

I'd expect Martin to pick up Small one on a free too, if he's Leicester manager. Then he'd have two key RussBall players in his first team.

I struggle to see how we shell out for Peretz if we haven’t got a good idea already that Ramsdale won’t be here, either on loan or sold. We’ll see, but I don’t personally see the transfer happening otherwise.

Getting rid of Baz, a much harder situation to imagine.

Those were my initial thoughts, but I also wonder if there's now a "fuck it" mindset where we're gonna go all Liebherr in league 1 and sign who we need and get rid of overhang when and if. I'm probably way off, but this is a proper statement if intent which suggests to me that we're going to give promotion a proper go.

I reckon Dragan is personally aggrieved and will want to go up with Tonda to prove a point.

Bazunu wont be back up. He's a 24 year old RoI international who will want to be playing regular first team football, which it's pretty clear he wont be getting here. He will leave this summer, hopefully permanently and we can get a decent fee for him.

I know I'd be p*ssing into the wind trying to argue that Bazunu is not infact the worst goalkeeper in the football league and I'm not going to bother. However, if you think we're getting better to come and sit on our bench, you're likely to be mistaken.

I don't think so.  Bazunu can't stop shots.  Almost any keeper would be an improvement.

Yep, agreed. He's a bloke who doesn't do failure and is giving this the full beans. I approve.

What a great signing and start to the window. So far, Dragon living up to his recent promise...🙏😂

Bree next please.

Larin too.

Stewart as well.

Then we worry about the one or two or three that might HAVE to be sold!!

An excellent signing and for the first time in what seems like ages, one that gets announced AHEAD of ST sales. Dragan showing that he’s not messing about this summer in prep for next season. Very encouraging for the fans.

What would be equally excellent is a statement of intent with THB, Bree, Scienza, Jander and Charles retained. Also giving the Captaincy to THB, although that might mean Jack moving on (but can’t see that happening this summer). The issue here is consistency of the spine of the team and maintain the siege and ‘hard done by’ mentality that must be coursing through the veins of the players now.

Echo others thoughts that Larin needs to be sorted OR a replacement that has the same or better attributes.

I’d not lose sleep if Archer was retained, but ultimately I don’t think he’s a good fit and we could do with a more suited player - an upgrade on Stewart and Larin would be ideal, but probably not feasible.

If you say so, I've read all this before and I don't just mean Bazunu. Bialkowski in 2012 - "We have to pray Kelvin never gets injured, we'll never get promoted in goal." Then we went up, had a revolving door of goalkeepers and people were slating all three of them, Gazzaniga in particular. Even Boruc copped a lot of flack in our first season up. Then there was FF, post injury when he had his mental health struggles. Save percentage about the same as Baz people were saying he was the reason we lost the 2017 cup final. Stekelenberg, everyone hated him, 'statistically the worst keeper in the league' etc. McCarthy, one howler after after another. If you think Baz is bad then literally every manager who's had a choice has picked him over McC. Two of them decided to swap keepers eventually, there was no improvement and both got sacked six games later. Then there was the absolute meltdown on this forum when we signed George Long on loan... well that's what's coming in a few weeks when we sign another 'backup' keeper.

Baz is the worst keeper we've ever seen in the football league... since the last worst keeper we've ever seen and until the next worst keeper we've ever seen.

Bringing McCarthy back into the team during our last promotion with Russ probably got us to the EPL.

Baz is awful and literally everyone can see it but you and, for some reason, a series of ex-managers. Can only assume managers were told to play him previously as we'd invested so much in him.

Peretz is only 25 as well. Nice to have a proper good goalkeeper for the level we're at, but also one who probably hasn't peaked yet and has the chance to grow with the club and be our #1 for many years now

This is spot on a proper statement signing and like you say Dragan isn’t messing around. I’d do everything I could to temp THB into another year give him the captaincy do anything possible to keep him.

Some good news, at last. A decent keeper who certainly played his part in helping us climb the league. All credit to Daniel for staying here with what has been going on. I hope this continues and we get more good news from the FA.

Genuinely don’t know what planet you’re on.

Bazunu is shocking, he’d be lucky to be our backup keeper.

Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s exactly what happens. Who on earth do you  think will be clamouring for his signature after he stunk the place out here, his European loan and at Stoke?

Someone mentioned it already but Leicester in league one is probably his only chance of staying a first choice keeper if Martin goes there.

We already got better to sit on the bench for us last season. George Long is statistically a better goalkeeper.

Massive statement of: Line drawn, we are going again together. He is the bedrock of our success, the foundation stone of our superb run last season.

Another idea.. from a very respectable ~80 year old season ticket holder to whom I told the good news about Peretz. Regarding the Middlesborough games, and I quote " all Saints fans should wear t-shirts with a picture of Hellberg's broken heart and his single tear on, together with two fingers".

I told her that was vulgar dear.. When do the t-shirts come out? We both can't wait..

Not just a fabulous signing, but in a world where any old shite regularly goes for £15m+, having the option in place that has meant getting him for circa £7m is an astonishing bit of business. Fair play to Spors on that one.

Larin, Stewart and Bree next please Johannes

Fantastic news. Big statement of intent, and I wonder if it’ll have any impact on some of the others deciding their future? Here’s hoping.

Thought the same too. With signing Peretz the club show we mean business and should make others think if a move away is the best move for them.

Sign Larin, new contracts for Bree and Stewart and that’s a flying start.

And being good neighbours, give Bazanu to Pompey for free but with the obligation they have to play him when he’s fit.

I honestly didn't think we had a chance of keeping him. I really wonder whats going on behind the scenes? what the players are being offered to stay and fight for promotion? There really does appear to be a siege mentality going on and i for one love it!

Wow. This is pretty incredible news tbh. I for one expected all of our decent players to leave this summer let alone, arguably our best one. Maybe will make some of the others think twice about leaving knowing they will have a good keeper behind them again next season.

Stop trying to make out we’re fickle and are always criticising  keepers. Baz is damn lucky he played for us rather than some other clubs whose supporters would have turned on him a lot earlier and with a lot more clog.

He’s pony. He is by far the worse keeper I’ve seen who has played more than a dozen games, and that’s any keeper not just Saints ones. If Stoke sign him their supporters will be livid, that’s how atrocious he is.

People who were banging the “he’s good enough for the championship drum, will now be banging the “he’s good enough as back up” drum. They were wrong then and they’re wrong now. He’s as out of his depth and useless as Damion Downs, you wouldn’t want him as your backup striker, and we don’t want Baz as our back up keeper.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect Perez to sign.
£7m is a lot of money for a 'keeper in the Championship.
He came across very well in his interview on the club website too.

Fantastic news. I want to think there was a chance we'd keep him, but very very pleased its actually come to fruition. I was fully expecting to read news of him signing for a Bundesliga team or possibly a lower prem side. Cracking signing, well played to all involved, and Peretz deserves much love from the fans as he could have had his choice of clubs and made decision to come back to saints (in spite of everything that's gone on).

Every one of those other keepers you mention... whatever mistakes they may have made, howlers in possession or saves they probably could/should have made but didn't - at the very least they all looked like they understood the basics of goalkeeping and for the most part saved pretty much everything you would expect them to save.

Bazunu does not fit this description. After all the years since he signed, he has shown zero sign of any improvement in his game, regularly lets terrible shots somehow get past him, and still looks more like an outfield player who drew the short straw and had to go in goal because the actual keeper got injured/sent off and there was no backup on the bench.

It's absolutely mad how some people just can't see this.

Wow. That is absolutely a statement we're going for it next season, love it.

Dunno if any of you follow basketball, but I'm hoping for something like the San Antonio Spurs 2014 season. In 2013, they were about to win the NBA finals, then Miami made a crazy shot, forced overtime, then won, then won the game after that to win the series. Spurs mocked as too old, chokers, etc etc. In 2014, the Spurs were the best team in the league during the year, then in the Finals against Miami who were going for 3 titles in a row, the Spurs.... absolutely destroyed them too and got their revenge.

Serve it cold, lads.

I suspect we have a pretty good idea that Tonda will be OK for next season for this announcement to have been made, likewise that Ramsdale's exit is also nailed on. It also suggests to me that most of the other first teamers are on board, even if one or two will ultimately be sold. A few players out of contract (Aribo, Romeu etc) and shift a few of last seasons loans, and the books can be balanced without much need for incomings. Was hoping we would sign Shea's bro from Wednesday, but not sure he would want to be backup, and would depend on Shea staying, which I hope he does but would get it if he doesn't. Maybe Alex would be good enough as backup, just worried that Peretz may not be as bullet proof injury wise to make that work. Wondering if Oriol might stay in an coaching role.

I personally think that this is the most earth shattering, history altering transfer since Helen went from Sparta to Troy.
