Summer Transfer Window 2023

The way that the Liverpool based journos decry our player valuations whilst Liverpool themselves are pocketing overinflated fees from Saudi for their castoffs is just weird.

Smacks of a completely entitled club.

Didn't see them complaining when they pocketed £25 million for Rhian Brewster despite him barely setting foot on the pitch but suppose that's OK as he is from the mighty Liverpool.

How do these 'journalists' know the details of the offer? Who tells them?

Liverpool use Paul Joyce as their most trusted journalist I think. Melissa Reddy if Sky Sports News also has strong links from her roles before Sky with them. She’s written books for them too I think. Probably where the excessive line came from. Modern football hey.

Next time I want to buy a new car I'm going to tell them their price is excessive and see if they'll give me a 20% discount.  Maybe I'll pay them another 10% later if it meets their milage claims.

Come to think of it, dealing with Liverpool, West Ham and Burnley is a lot like dealing with Used Car Salesmen :0)

Liverpool are fast becoming my new Everton. I'd love to see a Merseyside relegation double.  If only the PL could grow some balls and deduct points for both breaking FFP rules AND acting like entitled cunts.

On this note, what is happening with the everton fpp charges? Quite evidently teams like as saints were pushed to spend excessive amounts in trying to achieve survival due to the cheating of Everton...

I struggle to understand the benefit of having that information out in the public domain.

Thinking again about the hilarious 'Free Nathan Tella' campaign doing the rounds yesterday, I think I remember Liverpool fans doing something similar with VVD in that period where he effectively signed out of playing for us with anything like 100% effort.

This'll be funny as they keep incrementally increasing their bid by a million each time, with the media continually saying the deal is "nearly done", only for us to keep rejecting it until we get what we want. One month to go Liverpool, and plenty of teams like the look of him...

Ooh, 'we're going to look at other targets'. Off you go then you bunch of cheapskate twats with your inflated opinion of the Kop and the magic of European nights and sentimental bollocks and YNWA tosh anthems and not liking the Sun and all that balls. He's worth £50m of anyone's money, and hopefully will be. Come on Chelsea.

I’m just waiting for the Lavia ‘ponderous looking out a window ‘ instagram pic with accompanying emojis.
A’ la Van Dyke.
I’m sure Liverpool have encouraged him also to do so,because  we are keeping him hostage  by playing hardball over wanting £50m.
the broom cupboard at staplewood must be pretty tight with both him and Tella locked inside.
the usual Modus operandi. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What is the income and profit margins for a club like Liverpool? 500m+ and generally in always making money for the owners? Farcical they don’t want to pay what has been known as the price to get him.

It just seems they feel they can bully their way to getting players,  certainly the media are biased towards them.

I wanted to punch him after his display at home v Leicester.

Absolute cunt.

They will just have to walk away then. They won't be on their own though, because I've heard it said they never walk alone.

We should send out a message that it's £55m now for anyone who is interested, just to piss the Scousers off.

I was thinking this over and nearest thing I could think of would be Saints fans instigating a #freeBroja campaign after his decent loan season with us.  Pointless and pathetic, he was a Chelsea player and out of our price range at the time, which is why we didn't do it.  I would be amazed to see Tella back at Burnley after their recent bollocks.

It’s the art of negotiation, the same as any other club trying to sign any other player. Of course they’re going to try every trick in the book to get him cheaper. It doesn’t matter their profit margins, if they take a £5m hit on every transfer, and make ten of them (in and out) every season, that’s £50m.

Also, much like the saintsweb vs twitter wars of early summer, looks like they've found saintsweb - DT has been rumbled for sure.... 😆

I sincerely hope we sell him to anyone but them - would be beautiful.

Yep - next step in the Liverpool play book is Klopp encouraging the player to go on strike...

Christ this is tedious. Southampton know we’re in desperate need of a defensive mid, I’d be shocked if they budged much from their £50m valuation as they don’t appear to be in desperate need of the money. I’m all for negotiating but we have a very weak hand to play and bidding nearly 20% below their asking was never gonna be accepted.

I think the response should be "This isn't Poundstretcher, you know the price so either pay it or stop wasting our time, If the bid isn't the asking price we won't even respond" They really need to put up or shut up. All the feeds are coming out of the clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle.

They are not negotiating with these bids below 40m and perhaps it’s arrogance if they haven’t done any research on SR’s stance this season to come up with an acceptable bid under 50m.

Yes I agree. Some posts on that Liverpool site are refreshingly good, and (although I didn't read many) are largely in agreement with us. I think now, maybe they will walk away from it....I hope so. As I see it, if they cave in now and pay us what we have valued him at from the start, they will be seen to have lost a major battle of wills, which will be a green light to other clubs to treat them the same way. And in so doing their fans and their media will see it as having wasted a big chunk of pre-season fannying about over a few million.

On the other hand, If they walk away now, I think it would look better for them in the "bigger picture" with them saying something to the effect of "We wanted the player but in our opinion he was over valued by Southampton  and we weren't prepared to pay what they wanted". In other words, they weren't prepared to back down to our demands. In either scenario they will still be seen as having wasted valuable pre-season time by not getting it sorted quicker.

This seems appropriate....

Weird comment.

That Melissa Reddy tweet feels about as Liverpool-fed as I've ever seen a rumour. The Brazilian transfer window shuts tomorrow and I doubt they'd want to sell without a replacement. Liverpool will obviously be hoping that Lavia and his side start putting some pressure on the club, but it's pretty embarrassing that it took them almost a week to up their offer by just about £3m? I hope we stay strong on £50m, but I wouldn't blame the club for taking something around £45m and accelerating the chance to get some players in which RM is looking at. It'd be a shame for this to end in a transfer request.

I don't think Lavia will play a part against Sheffield Wednesday regardless, so I'd rather it got done ASAP.

Funny thing is, I can see Lavia fitting into a Chelsea team more than a Liverpool team - I really hope the Board resist the disrespectfully low offers for this World-class lad comparatively easily worth £50m given he's destined to be worth £90m+ in three short years time.  I hope the dippers pull out and he goes to Chelsea - the dippers will then need to pay twice as much to pull him away which for all their underhanded tapping-up will be well deserved.

not exactly the same.  We did not want to pay Swansea what THEY thought they were owed. Instead, we just sat it out.

Has that been resolved anyway?

Actually have no idea.

Also slightly strange that we never seemed to hear a fee for Diallo? Unless I missed that one.

Very different situation IMO.

Martin effectively had two price tags and both sides feel very strongly that their interpretation was right.  I fully understand why Saints took the view we were a Championship club given that we had already been relegated when we first approached them.

Lavia is our player plain and simple and the only 'right' price is the one we have put on him.

Bit rich us complaining considering our issues with Swansea over such a paltry amount, in comparison

What do you mean? He had a contractual release clause value if joining a championship club, we hired him as a championship club. Why would we have paid more than his release clause... Other than if we'd been desperate to have him earlier and wanted to bow down over the dubious interpretation of whether a relegated club is a championship team or a prem team - Which clearly we weren't given swansea were happy to pay his wages whilst he was on holiday and part time working for us 😆

Andre alternative... fuck me, if you're going to make something up at least make it vaguely plausible.

Who starts as DM and who covers that position for Liverpool next weekend?

You know the price, it's reasonable, if you don't like it then you can fuck off.
