The issues with RLC:

1. He is always injured

2. We wouldn't be able to sign him permanently if he did well so its against the ethos of the club

3. He isnt a 'no6'

4. He is always injured

Agree with this. Even if he is fit right now, how long for him to get up to speed with Ralph’s style of play to become effective? Can’t see it at all.

1. Fair point but I expect most of us said/felt the same about Ings. I can admit I thought the Ings deal was a poor one when it first happened.

2. You are right it would be quite unlikely but not impossible. The Chelsea midfield is stacked so crazier things have happened. If he only stays for a year but does well while we develop the likes of Jankewitz into a first team player without relying on him prematurely  then it's a win-win.

3. I would suggest he's quite versatile and if Ralph feels he has attributes that could work in his system it could work. Ralph shifted Armstrong's position/role and he's come on leaps and bounds.

4. Yhep, you're right his injury record is a real minus. If he didn't have it we wouldn't even be able to consider signing him. A 24 year old England international at a top four club on £120,000 a week. No chance.

I can see why others would not agree but I would be excited if this came to fruition!

Get him in if we can - he’s struggled with injuries but also hard if you can’t get regular game time, to get back up to fitness before your next injury. Great player, and 100% exactly the type of player we’re crying out for. Physical, quick, but has the skill to burst past a few players when we’re struggling to break a stubborn defence down.

He is also on over £120k a week, so no chance of us signing him, even on loan I wouldnt have thought.

From RH comments in the above it made me think about Kuzyaev. Sure we will see some links emerge this week about a few...

RLC won’t come to us, £120,000 a week is way over what we will pay.

<MLG mode on>

Aren't some of the players we loan out on a wage that is higher than the host club can afford and, as such, we end up subsidising their wages? If so, no reason why we couldn't come to a similar arrangement with the likes of Chelsea ? (Not that I believe we're in for RLC)

the tone of your MLG mode is no where near condescending enough, something along these lines is more accurate

I'm puzzled as to why you would think that Saints would cover all of his wages. When Southampton send players out on loan only part of the wage would be covered by the other clubs, why do you think Saints could not reach a similar arrangement with Chelsea?

Swiss Ramble gives an interesting overview of the amount owners have injected into clubs over the past five years. The likes of Wolves and Brighton, Villa and Everton have had hundreds of millions in interest free loans and converted equity, while we've had nothing (well, 1m apparently, but no idea where that came from). Obviously some of that has been spent playing catch-up on newly promoted squads, but hard to argue now that the likes of Wolves aren't now operating a level or two above us in the transfer market now, with multiple signings well above our record.

At least we haven't had money flowing out of the club to the owner yet, unlike United, Newcastle and Spurs.

Any links? All I'm seeing is other clubs strengthening and we have weakened the midfield options  considerably....

Have we?

Of the midfield options we have considerably weakened you talk about one hasn’t played a first game match for 3 years another has only made three  league appearances since jan 1 2019. We need to replace Hojbjerg that is obvious but just because we’ve sold players that player it doesn’t mean that selling them has weakened the squad

Interesting that people don't think we spend money!

I still think we are way to reliant on Ings getting goals. Long and obafemi aren’t good enough and the jury is out on Adams.

Seen today that Origi is being chased by a number of the teams we’ll be competing with come the end of the season (villa, Newcastle, Fulham, Brighton).

doubt he’d be cheap (within our budget) but would love us to make a move for him. I think him and ings would give us a real threat up top.

Wouldn't be terrible but we're not going to sign another striker this window.

RLC was awful last night, not keen on him based on that showing but we know he has potential. I'm not sure he would do too well in a high-energy defensive/box-to-box role we would want him for though.

Still 3 weeks left of the window, plenty of time for at least a couple of "will he, won't he" transfer sagas!

Wondering if our reported interest in Koopmeiners is dependent on AZs Champs League progress. Lost 2-0 away to Dynamo Kiev. No champions league money could force their hand

Our reported interest was almost certainly rubbish, given we have heard nothing since. Can always hope though.

Argh, can we just find someone under the age of 24 who is tall enough to head the ball, athletic enough to run with it into space when it opens up and adventurous enough to play a forward pass when it's on? Stick a pin in any French Ligue 1 club and you'll probably have at least one central midfielder fitting the bill.
