He was well revered when at Luton, playing in their direct football approach. However, every time I watch him try to cross it, it bobbles into the box or goes flying. Is it just me? Yup, he had a golden opportunity first half vs Bournemouth and shot it flat across the ground at the defender sliding in - had the time and space to either turn or lift it over him. He's struck me as very weak positionally and he seems to be never near his man or able to close them down / catch them. Also seems to be extremely timid in an attacking sense with limited forward passing and doesn't really take anyone on. Not sure what he adds to be honest, like playing with 10men. Which would be very bad for our promotion prospects based on what i've seen. We categorically need to get one more RB in if either KWP/Tino leave. If one of Tino or KWP leave then the other will be first choice with Bree as back up, Bree is a proven, experienced championship level right back. Can you please confirm what sort of level player we should be having as second choice at right back if that isn't good enough for you.

I’m happy with Bree as a back up, given he’s supposedly a capable Championship RB. Would just like to see him put in a performance in a saints shirt! First choice, not confident he’s good enough in our possession based style.

saintant Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Think this thread deserves a bump. Very impressed with Bree today, thought he hardly put a foot wrong and if he keeps this up it'll be hard to leave him out of the team. Well done to the lad who has had to wait his chance but is now showing what he can do. 12
Saint_clark Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Him being in the team is what is allowing KWP to bomb forward so much as we essentially shift to a back 3. 5
Toadhall Saint Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Been good of late and deserves to keep his place. 4
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 I'm pleased he's getting his chance. It's been a bit of a train wreck of a move, coming in as Jones' pick, and plummeting down the pecking order as that went pear shaped. Gives us a bit of not just competition there, with Larios' injury, but some much needed experience getting first team minutes in the squad too. With suspensions/ injuries people will get their chances. Martin and Bree have shown that if you get your chance and do well, others are going to have to step up to move you out the team. 3
AlexLaw76 Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Solid game. As said in the match thread, he just does not seem to get caught in possession, like another defender - sat on the bench 4
Convict Colony Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Happy for the bloke, he came into us via the Welsh wonder but the bloke has never let us down, seems to have a good attitude and over the last 2 weeks he's been good in that unfamiliar left back position. Can't be a coincidence that there seems to be less attacks down that side. Also talked about it before but he seems taller than Manning even tho he apparently isn't and is a defender who can attack rather than Manning who just wants to attack and defend a bit. Hopefully he retains his place he deserves it merit 8
OldNick Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 He was a top player for Luton in this league and so knows how to play. Go from strength to strength hopefully
Wade Garrett Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Played well today. Deserves to keep his place. 5

Yep, Bree barely got forward but we didn't need him to. It all goes through KWP. In terms of defending, it's quite clear that he's better than Manning in that respect. CB Fry Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Two games in a row. Very solid/effective. Looks like Flynn Downes brother as well so really has slotted right in. 3 1
Fan The Flames Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Please for him, wound up here because of Jones and then watched Luton go up. So I'm pleased that he's stepped up, claimed a place and is playing well 8

We're so much more solid down the left with him there. 3
S-Clarke Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 He's a third CB really, he doesn't get caught marauding up the pitch like Manning. First and foremost he defends and he's not bad at that. We're not as exposed with him in the side. For me, Manning stays on the bench. 4
derry Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Fitted in well. Defended first which we need and secondly didn't try and get in front of Sulemana which gave him room to run the full back and resulted in him laying on the second goal. Being right footed he wasn't continually turning right onto his left foot. 1

Hopefully he retains his place he deserves it merit That height difference surprised me. He looks several feet taller but is actually 1.78m against 1.80m for Manning. This is nothing. I’m 1.75m myself. I like him. He has a proper footballer’s stature. 1
John Boy Saint Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Last 2 games I thought he looked tidy, no frills just does his job with out inducing a sharp intake of breath like Manning does. 1
Tamesaint Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 I like him. Played well today and seems solid. He does need to improve his crossing however when he goes forward.
Miltonaggro Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Looks like what he is, a proper solid defensive full back at this level. He gives the defence better balance in my view, and things seem less frenetic. Good luck to the lad. 1
davefizzy14 Posted 28 October, 2023 Posted 28 October, 2023 Bree was excellent again today. Has fitted in well at left back and deserves to keep his place 6
Give it to Ron Posted 29 March, 2024 Posted 29 March, 2024 I thought had really good game today solid and defended well allows KWP to get forward not leaving short at back . Good in the air and supported the winger well on left. 7
skintsaint Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Apparently (according to the BBC) he started on the right of a front three for Charlton yesterday....

Andrew Watson Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Scored a cracker tonight,we played him at full back,he was a midfielder at Luton.
Saint_lambden Posted October 1 Posted October 1 He's always had superb technique. Interesting that he's been playing in a more advanced role for Charlton in the past couple of weeks. I suspect they'll try and buy him permanently when his loan expires as we've just got too many options here already for him to force his way back in with us.

He's been playing as a RWB in a back 3, so not really an advanced role. I've always liked the lad. Solid defensively and pretty decent technically as you say. I'm not sure that the new lads give us much if any more. 5

He clearly has a good relationship with Jones (and plays really well under him), and was probably promised to be a starter, which is something he never really had here. I wish he was still in our squad, but good luck to him.
benjii Posted October 2 Posted October 2 He's a decent upper mid Champ player, which is not good enough for the Super Saints.
